CATEGORY RULES
NARRATIVE FEATURE CATEGORY:

GIFF presents Narrative Feature films of all types and genres, including, but not limited to, comedies, dramas, action adventures, thrillers and family friendly films. There need not be any military connection reflected in the film content.

GIFF does provide a significant amount of programming dedicated to the following criteria:

Films that preserve the stories of military veterans in the arena of war and back on the home-front.

Films that have at least one main character serving in the U.S. military who is depicted with respect.

For our international presentations, films that depict the lives of international military veterans and/or the general worldwide struggle for liberty and democracy.

Films of all types in which a military veteran played a key role in production are strongly encouraged to apply regardless of film genre.

DEADLINES:

All films submitted for consideration for GIFF Los Angeles and New York City in 2013 will also be considered for GIFF Washington, DC 2014.

The Festival STRONGLY URGES filmmakers to submit all materials as early as possible to enhance chances of acceptance.

Deadlines for GIFF flagship events in Los Angeles, New York City and Washington, DC 2014 are as follows:

GIFF Los Angeles (November 1-3, 2013): All films submitted, including preview film copies, no later than SEPTEMBER 15, 2013.

GIFF New York City (November 14-16, 2013): All films submitted, including preview film copies no later than SEPTEMBER 25, 2013.

GIFF Washington, DC (May 9-13, 2014): All films submitted, including preview film copies, no later than March 15, 2014.

Notification generally takes place within two weeks of the final submission deadline for each event.

AWARDS/PRIZES

Prizes in each competition will be awarded by a jury of industry professionals. Films that are in distribution are eligible for screening, but are out of competition and ineligible to receive prizes.

In addition to "Best of Fest" awards, all film entries without distribution are eligible for the Military Channel Award, which may include broadcast on the Discovery Military Channel. All film entries are eligible for "first look" deals festival partners have with major Hollywood studios, television networks, on-line and DVD distribution partners. All film entries are eligible for broadcast on the GIFF's weekly television series on The Pentagon Channel (TPC), which is broadcast to every military base worldwide, inside the Pentagon and to 30 million homes via cable/satellite television.
