Category Rules

DCIFF shows up to 14 features films per festival between 41 and 120 minutes in length. DCIFF rarely, but sometimes, shows films over 2 hours long.

To qualify for the No Entry Fee for the Early-bird Deadline, you MUST be:
a) A DCIFF Alumni (meaning that your film had been screened at a previous Washington DC Independent Film Festival). Put evidence of being a DCIFF alumni in the notes section for the film or email the information to dciffsubmissions@gmail.com.
b) A student... although we do not usually receive feature films from students. The student fee requires a valid College or University I.D. If your film is under 40 minutes, please use the Student category which has a different fee schedule including free submission of films under 20 minutes until September 25, 2016.

If you submit your film in the student or alumni category without providing the information we asked you for, we will get in touch with you to give you time to correct this. If we do not hear back from you, we will remove your submission. We will not review your film before this has been sorted out.

A full press kit is not necessary, but we do require the following elements with your entry uploaded into WAB or sent to dciffsubmissions@gmail.com.

1) Color jpeg photo still from the film.
2) Director's bio.

If sending your submission in DVD or USB format; Please properly label DVD (on the box and the video/disc itself) with WAB Tracking ID, title of the film, name of the director and length.

In the Withoutabox Cover Letter Section, please indicate if;
a) You have sent the required elements via email to dciffsubmissions@gmail.com (please write the film title in the subject line of the e-mail) or if these elements are available in your Withoutabox online Press Kit (free and easy to use!).
b) what outreach and marketing tools you already have in place for your film

Please keep the festival informed of any changes in the status of your film: for example if you have had a world premiere or been offered a chance to screen in Washington DC or your film has gone into distribution. We will accept films that have been screened privately in the Metro DC area. We are delighted to accept films that are in distribution however, WE NEVER PAY SCREENING FEES but are happy to work towards bringing filmmakers and cast to the screening event in Washington DC.

ALL Questions about submissions should all go to: dciffsubmissions@gmail.com

By submitting to the festival, the filmmaker(s) acknowledges that once a film is accepted and programmed for screening in competition at DCIFF, the film may not be withdrawn without the express written permission of DCIFF given in DCIFF's sole discretion. In the event a screening print is not delivered, DCIFF reserves the right to screen publicly the DVD or digital submission. It is the intention of DCIFF to work out any an d all screening issues amicably,

Thank you, DCIFF team
