Category Rules

DCIFF shows up to 15 features films per festival. Feature films should be between 41 mins and 120 mins. DCIFF rarely but sometimes shows films that are over 2 hours.

To qualify for the No Entry Fee for the Earlybird Deadline, you MUST be a DCIFF Alumni (meaning that your film had been accepted and screened at a previous Washington DC Independent Film Festival).

Please note that the student fee is for films over 40mins. and requires a valid College or University I.D. If your film is under 40 minutes, please use the Student category which has a different fee schedule including free submission of films under 20 minutes until October 10, 2014.

Although a full press kit is not necessary, we do require the following elements with your entry form on a CD:

1) Color jpeg photo still from the film.
2) Director's bio.

Please properly label DVD (on the box and the video/disc itself) with WAB Tracking ID, title of the film, name of the director and length.

In the Withoutabox Cover Letter Section, please indicate if;

a) you have sent the required elements via email to filmmakers@dciff.org and dciffsubmissions@gmail.com (please write the film title in the subject line of the e-mail) or if these elements are available in your Withoutabox online Press Kit (free and easy to use!).

b) what outreach and marketing tools you already have in place for your film

Please keep the festival informed of any changes in the status of your film: for example if you have had a world premiere or been offered a chance to screen in Washington DC. We will accept films that have been screened privately in the Metro DC area.

Questions about submissions should all go to: dciffsubmissions@gmail.com

By submitting to the festival, the filmmaker(s) acknowledges that once a film is accepted and programmed for screening in competition at DCIFF, the film may not be withdrawn without the express written permission of DCIFF given in DCIFF's sole discretion. There are no exceptions to this rule even in the case of technical issues. In the event a screening print is not delivered, DCIFF reserves the right to screen publicly the DVD or digital submission.

Thank you.
