Category Rules

The purpose of the IFFF Youth Fest! is to support the International Family Film Institute’s (IFFI) mission to foster a greater understanding of family through discovery, the creation and sharing of quality stories from around the world. The IFFF Youth Fest! gives young filmmakers from across the US and abroad the opportunity to join important film panels, network with their peers and professional filmmakers and premiere their films& screenplays before a live audience.

All film entries must have been completed after September 2011 to be eligible for the 2013 competition. Other films may be screened “for presentation only.” Youth films are produced by youth ages 8-18 years of age. This individual or group of youth is/are the primary individual(s) who is/are responsible for the pre-production, production and post-production of the submitted film(s). Youth entrants are recommended by the IFFF Youth Fest!/IFFF to include Proof of US Copyright OR a WGA (Writers Guild of America) registration filing number. It is required that each youth or group submit a Letter of Production Authenticity signed by the youth filmmaker if the filmmaker is 14 to 17 years of age. If the youth filmmaker is 13 years of age or younger, the youth filmmaker AND a parent, legal guardian or teacher of the youth filmmaker must both sign a Letter of Production Authenticity form in order to complete the entry process. This form is attached to this pdf download or is also available on the IFFF Youth Fest! Website.

Entry process
Film categories: drama, comedy, animation, mixed media, musical, documentary and educational.
All film entries must include a completed entry form with category, the correct entry fee, 2 DVD’s(NTSC format), a signed Letter of Production Authenticity (jointly signed with a parent, legal guardian or teacher if entrant is 13 years old or younger) and a CD including the following items: (1) up to a 50-word film synopsis (required), (2) a digital photo of the Director (optional) and (3) an electronic Press Kit (including production stills and poster - optional) for IFFF display during the festival. These items will be requested upon “Official Selections” notification to the submitter of the film. Incomplete forms may cause delays.

The Judges will recognize finalists and winners in each film category. The film finalists and winners will be chosen for their quality and appropriateness in the various categories, and determined in the sole and absolute discretion of the Judges. Each of the categories below includes two (2) age brackets, one for entries between 8 to 13 years old and a second segment for youth 14 to 18 years of age. Each Participating Group will need to select one of the two brackets, and at least one of the members of the Participating Group must be of an age to qualify for that bracket.
The Youth Fest! Film Official Selections will be notified by email and/or snail mail, and will be listed on the IFFF website by January 28, 2013 or soon thereafter.

NEW POLICY for the Movies on the Move! program: All IFFF Youth Fest! official selection films may be given the opportunity to be screened at Schools, Libraries, Park & Recreation Centers, Senior Centers and/or Community Centers across America (the “Free Community Screenings”). The film selection process will be determined at the discretion of the IFFF Youth Fest! Executive Staff, and then the filmmakers will be notified and request written permission. The Free Community Screenings will not enable the facilities to charge entrance or admission fees, and no royalties will be paid for short format films included in the Free Community Screenings. The IFFF Youth Fest! and IFFF will use their best efforts, however, to provide online links (e.g. to Amazon or iTunes) and/or other such promotional consideration (as appropriate) to the filmmakers and by permission of the filmmaker if their film is selected for the Movies on the Move! program inclusion.
