Category Rules

All entries must have been completed on or after January 1, 2015.

Short films are 50 minutes and under.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recognizes the San Francisco International Film Festival as a qualifying festival for the short film (live action, documentary and animated) competitions for the 88th annual Academy Awards.

Note: Previous television or Internet broadcast will disqualify a work from Oscar consideration.

College students must include copy of student ID as proof of enrollment at time of production.

Bay Area entry fee discounts are for current Bay Area residents. Proof of residency is required (CA drivers license). Producers, crew or cast members are not eligible for Bay Area discounts.

Rough cuts or works-in-progress are accepted and reviewed. However, filmmakers are urged to submit as close to the final cut as possible. The Festival will not accept new versions of an entry unless requested by the programming staff.

Deadlines are postmarked dates.
