Category Rules

RULES

I. GENERAL TERMS
1. The 2nd edition of “Olhar de Cinema – Curitiba International Film Festival” is organized by Grafo Audiovisual. The festival will be held from May 29th to 06th June, 2014, in Curitiba, Brazil.

2. Registrations are open to fiction, documentary,
experimental, animated and hybrid films. All the films must have
been released after January 2013. The film and video formats
for exhibition at the Festival are: 35 mm (for Brazilian films), DCP
or FULLHD (mov).

II. CATEGORIES
1. The film festival is composed for the official selection of competitive and non-competitive sections, which are divided according to the following categories and sections:

a) Feature Films (over 50 minutes)
Competitiva Internacional de Longa Metragem (International Feature Film Competition) - for films from around the world (including Brazilian films) - 14 to 16 films

Outros Olhares (Other Views) - brief panorama of films from around the world (including Brazilian films). - 14 to 16 films

Mirada Paranaense (Parana State Films) - for films of people from Parana or residents who have been there for at least 2 years.

b) Short Films (up to 49 minutes)
Competitiva Internacional de Curta Metragem (International Short Film Competition) - for films from around the world (including Brazilian films). - 15 to 18 films

Mirada Paranaense (Parana State Films) - for films of people from Parana or residents who have been there for at least 2 years.

III. REGISTRATION
1. Registrations must be made by directors, producers or legal representatives of the films at www.olhardecinema.com.br or through Withoutabox (www.withoutabox.com) between November 11th, 2013 and February 17th , 2014. The film must arrive at the festival office till February 28th, 2014.

2. Films must be sent through the wetransfer festival account (olhardecinemaciff.wetransfer.com to olhardecinema@olhardecinema.com), Vimeo (with password) or DVD. When submitted by Withoutabox films also can be sent by Secure Online Screener.

3. Films NOT spoken in Portuguese: it is required English, Spanish or Portuguese subtitles.

4. For submission purposes, screener may be of work-in-progress.

5. Once submitted and selected, the film cannot be removed from the festival program.

6. Shipping and Handling taxes of the DVD and any materials submitted for selection are at the directors', producers' or legal representatives' expenses.

7. There will not be any registration fees.

IV. SELECTION AND TRUSTEES
1. The exhibition copies must arrive at the festival till May 15th, 2014 and remain through at least June 20th, 2014.

2. The festival is responsible for the transportation cost of the selected films' copies, excluding any additional costs imposed by customs or other fee in the country of origin of the film.

3. The Copies will be insured by the organization of the festival from the moment the festival receives them up to the moment the festival returns them through the dispatcher so that they return to the address notified by the directors, producers or legal representatives of the films. The insurance does not cover any wear and tear of the film itself during the projections.

V. AWARDS
1. The following prizes will be awarded:

Competitiva Internacional (International Film Competition)
Feature Film
• 'Olhar' Award - Best Film (financial award in the amount of R$ 12,000.00*) Around USD 6,000.00;

• Special Jury Prize;

• Award for Artistic Contribution (The award can be given to an actor, composer, editor, director of photography, scriptwriter, sound designer, or art director).

• 'Olhar' Award - Best Brazilian Film (financial award in the amount of R$ 10,000.00*) dedicated for the best Brazilian feature film of the International Competition

Short Film
• 'Olhar' Award - Best Film (financial award in the amount of R$ 4,000.00*) Around USD 2,000.00;

• 'Olhar' Award - Best Brazilian Film (financial award in the amount of R$ 3,000.00*) dedicated for the best Brazilian short film of the International Competition

Other Prizes
• Trophy "Um Novo Olhar" for the best first film of the Official Selection (International Competition and Other Views);

• Critics Award for one feature film of the ‘Competitiva Internacional de Longa Metragem’ (International Feature Film Competition);

• Audience Award for shorts and features of the 'Competitiva Internacional' (International Film Competition)

• RPCTV Award with the amount of R$ 3,500.00* for the best film film of the section 'Mirada Paranaense' (Parana State Films).

*All financial awards are subject to tax, to be paid in Brazil, according to the Brazilian Law.

VI. TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. The directors, producers, or legal representatives of the registered films on the festival give to the festival free of charge, the right to display and advertise, in any media, film images (photos and excerpts of up to 30 seconds) by itself or third parties at any time, without limitation of number of times, without receiving salary or compensation for the participants.

2. The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations.

3. The official selection will be announced to the public and press on April 30th, 2014.

4. The person responsible for registration shall indemnify and hold harmless Olhar de Cinema – Curtiba Int’l Film Festival from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered.

VII. FINAL CLAUSES
1. The festival is not responsible for returns, losses and other expenses incurred in sending the application materials.

2. Incidents not covered by this regulation will be reviewed by the organizing committee of the festival, and their decision will be autonomous.
