Category Rules

GIFF presents international films of all types and genres, including, but not limited to, documentaries, comedies, dramas, action adventures, thrillers and family friendly films.

GIFF does provides a significant amount of programming dedicated to the following criteria:

Films that preserve the stories of military veterans in the arena of war and back on the home-front.

Films that have at least one main character serving in the U.S. military who is depicted with respect.

For our international presentations, films that depict the lives of international military veterans and/or the general worldwide struggle for liberty and democracy.

Films of all types in which a military veteran played a key role in production are strongly encouraged to apply regardless of film genre.

The Festival STRONGLY URGES filmmakers to submit all materials as early as possible to enhance chances of acceptance.

Notification generally takes place within two weeks of the final submission deadline for each event.

Prizes in each competition will be awarded by a jury of industry professionals. Films that are in distribution are eligible for screening, but are out of competition and ineligible to receive prizes.

In addition to "Best of Fest" awards, all film entries without distribution are eligible for the American Heroes Channel Award, which may include broadcast on the Discovery American Heroes Channel. All film entries are eligible for "first look" deals festival partners have with major Hollywood studios, television networks, on-line and DVD distribution partners. All film entries are eligible for broadcast on the GIFF's weekly television series on the DOD News Network, which is broadcast to every military base worldwide, inside the Pentagon and to 30 million homes via cable/satellite television.

Competition is open to U.S. and International entries. No repeat entries. Send entries in sturdy, reusable containers or bubble wrap envelopes. There is no limit to the number of films you can submit to the festival. Each film must be submitted with a separate entry.

Entries must be submitted on DVD for pre-screening (NTSC). Festival screening format will be provided upon acceptance.

Although every possible care will be taken with tapes and films while in our possession, we cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage. Do not send original prints or tapes. Notification of acceptance into the festival will be made on or about April 10, 2015. Please keep the festival notified of any address/phone/email changes.

Submission of an entry gives the festival permission to have accepted work photographed, locally telecast, and reproduced, either in part or whole, for non-commercial publicity purposes only, unless otherwise requested in writing by the filmmaker.

To help the festival promote your film and drive attendance, please provide the following with your festival entry:
