Submission Guidelines:
The following guidelines govern submissions for this year's Festival. For more information, call 916-524-5138. Please read these guidelines carefully and follow all directions for submission.

General guidelines for all screenplays:


BEING ACCEPTED: A Definition

You understand that should your screenplay be 'accepted', you will be notified by our staff and invited to attend the event as a visiting writer. "ACCEPTED" screenwriters will receive a discounted FULL ACCESS PASS to the entire festival including our screenwriting conference ( A $500 value). Being accepted is no gaurantee of further prize winning.

#1) Categories of Entry:
American Screenplay Chalenge....only features are accepted. Shorts are considered anything up to 20 pages.

Please make certain that you have specified which genre(s) your film is. A genre helps our judges to identify the film's content. All styles of film will be accepted for review.

#2) Eligibility Requirements:
Anyone from anywhere in the world may enter this category. Scripts submitted to the California contest may not also be submitted here. Employees and board members are prohibited from entering.

#3) Format Requirements:
PROPER script format only. PDF and word files only please.


#4) Disclaimer:
The Festival holds no responsibility for lost files or stolen intellectual property. Contestants are expected to protect themselves from copyright infringement in the normal methods prescribed for screenwriters.

#5) Awards:
Awards and acknowledgments will be given at the festival. Winners may receive award statue plus valuable gifts. One winner will be awarded the outstanding Short Screenplay. In addition, One writer will receive the LEW HUNTER AWARD for SCREENWRITING EXCELLENCE. This is a separate acknowledgement and may be given to anyone in the various 3 (Short screenplay, California and American) categories. The winner of the Lew Hunter award will not also win in the categories as the Lew Hunter award is considered a separate and higher acknowledgement.

By submitting your film you understand and agree that the festival may use your name and screenplay title for any marketing activities to promote the festival. Use of film content may include but is not limited to playback over Access non-profit community TV channels, printed marketing pieces, commercial advertisements and Internet distribution.

By submission of your screenplay, you understand and agree that the Festival holds no responsibility for lost data and that there is no return policy for discs or digital files sent.
