This category is a competition.
Prize awarded to the Short Documentary film that receives the highest score from the judging panel.
Cash Award Value: 500 U.S. Dollar
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
All submissions must be short films that relate to the theme of `being free?.
All submissions must be documentary films, from 5 to 30 minutes in length.
Films can be traditional documentaries, animation, experimental, and of any genre (as long as it is documentary), that explores the theme of what it means to be free.
So, your film might be examining different types of freedom - perhaps freedom of speech, information, or expression. Or your film may be asking what makes someone feel free, or feel that they are not free? Your film could be taking a look at a personal freedom, philosophical freedom, religious freedom, political freedom, economic freedom; or being free to travel, to work, to marry, to just to be yourself. We are looking for many different and interesting interpretations!
DEADLINES: All DVD submissions must arrive at our office by whichever deadline you apply to. It is not sufficient for the package to just be postmarked before or by the deadline. If a package arrives at our office after whichever deadline you have applied to, your submission will not be taken into consideration.
SUBMISSIONS: All films must be submitted via Withoutabox. Films not submitted via Withoutabox will not be considered.
SUBMISSION FORMATS: The only submission formats that are accepted are Secure Online Screeners (SOS) or Region 0 DVDs (these can be either NTSC or PAL). No other submission formats are accepted.
PRIOR SUBMISSIONS: An entry that has been previously submitted to the Let's All Be Free Film Festival is not eligible unless it has been re-edited, or otherwise altered so that it is substantially a different film.
FEE WAIVERS: Fee waivers will not be granted under any circumstances.
WORKS IN PROGRESS: Works in progress will not be accepted for consideration.
LENGTH: Films are to be no less than 5 minutes and no more than 30 minutes in duration.
GENRE / TYPE: Films must not be under 5 minutes, must not be over 30 minutes (i.e. no feature films), and must not be fiction films, music videos, commercials/promos, corporate videos or educational videos.
SUBTITLES: All films not in English language must be subtitled in English.
COMPLETION DATE: All films must have been completed from the 1st of January 2012 onwards.
POSTAGE / CUSTOMS: All postage and customs costs are the responsibility of the sender. Films will not be taken into consideration if received after the late deadline (postmarked before the deadline is not sufficient). Submission DVDs will not be returned.
EXHIBITION FORMATS: The only accepted exhibition formats are .mov or .mpeg digital files.
PROMOTIONAL USE: Let's All Be Free Film Festival reserves the rights to use up to 30 seconds of all selected films, trailers and press kits for promotional purposes.

TERMS & CONDITIONS:
All films that are submitted must be the entrant's original work and shall not infringe on any copyrights or any other rights of any third parties. Contestants agree that they have obtained all required permissions regarding music, sound and/or images presented in the film. By entering the competition, the entrant agrees that the Let's All Be Free Film Festival will not be held liable for any copyright infringements perpetrated by you or your short film.
Entrants may enter more than one film into the Let's All Be Free Film Festival, but may not enter the same film into different categories.
The Let's All Be Free Film Festival reserves the right to not screen any film(s) for any reason it deems valid.
Winners will be required to sign an affidavit confirming that their short film is original and he/she holds all rights. Failure to sign and return the form within the required time period (30 days) or provision of false information may result in disqualification and an alternate winner may be selected. Affidavits of winners under 18 years of age at time of award must be countersigned by parent or legal guardian. Affidavits are subject to verification by the Let's All Be Free Film Festival and its agents.
Entrants will retain all ownership rights to their films submitted.
Entry materials submitted will not be returned to the entrant. The Let's All Be Free Film Festival is not responsible for late, lost, damaged, misdirected, postage due, stolen, or misappropriated entries.
Winners are selected by a judging panel of industry professionals who may be substituted at the discretion of the competition organizers. All entries are judged equally based on these 6 areas: Compliance to the theme of the festival (exploring, discussing or examining the different types of freedom and what it means to be free ? or not ? in the world today); Content Originality (quality of storyline, and script); Production (camera work, lighting, and shot composition); Post-Production (editing, transitions, pacing, continuity, and flow); Image (focus, colour, and lighting); Sound Quality (clarity, consistency of audio levels, and lack of noise).
Winners will be announced on 6th April 2014 and will be notified by email, and will also be listed on the festival website at www.labfff.com. The Let's All Be Free Film Festival will use its best efforts to announce the winners at the designated time, but will not be held liable for any unforeseen delays.
All prizes will be awarded to the first name as it appears on the entry form, and division of prizes among co-directors is the responsibility of the winners. However, multiple directors will be listed on our website and in all press releases. The Let's All Be Free Film Festival will use its best efforts to send prizes out in a timely fashion. All federal, state, and local taxes, and customs fees, when applicable, are the sole responsibility of the winner. The Let's All Be Free Film Festival will not pay any winners' taxes. Please note that any prizes which are sent to winners from Sponsors may take longer than prizes sent directly from the Let's All Be Free Film Festival. If the winner has not received any portion of sponsored prizes within 180 days and has not responded to the Let's All Be Free Film Festival, the Let's All Be Free Film Festival will no longer be responsible for delivery of sponsored prizes.
By entering the Let's All Be Free Film Festival, contestants and/or their parents or legal guardian (if such entrant is a minor) agree to accept and be bound by the decisions of the competition and its judges, which are final and binding in all matters. Entrant agrees to be bound by all terms of these official competition rules and regulations as established herein. Employees, their families, subsidiaries, and affiliates are not eligible. If entrant is under 18 years old, the signature of a parent or guardian is required.
The Let's All Be Free Film Festival reserves the right to extend the competition deadline for any unforeseen reasons if needed. Entry constitutes permission to use winner's name, likeness, and voice for future advertising and publicity purposes without additional compensation. Entrant also agrees for Let?s All Be Free Film Festival to use the press kit the entrant will send, including trailer and a 30 seconds extract of the film (without plot spoiler) for advertising and publicity purpose. Void where prohibited.
