Sponsor:Zero Point Films
Value of Goods/Services: 4,000 U.S. Dollar

Category Rules

Scripts of 25 pages or less may be submitted along with a statement of no more than 750 words stating:
1. Why they want to make the submitted script into a film
2. How they intend to make the film on a $4000 budget. Submitters’ responses to part 2 can be as limited to having no desire to make the film themselves, but rather just allowing Zero Point complete autonomy, including selecting a different director, to describing any resources the writer/director has at his/her disposal. These resources can include any equipment(camera, lights, etc), to skills(shooting, editing, composing, etc.), to access to locations, crew members, etc. Only the first 750 words of the statement will be read.

Selection Process
NYNL staff will read all submissions and statements, picking 5 finalists based on the following criteria:
Thoughtfulness of statement (ie. How likely the script is to be made under the budgetary constraints)
Overall script quality

NYNL staff and additional selection committee will announce a winner at the May NYNL event in 2013.

Pre-Production will begin in June 2013. Key Crew(director(if different than writer), Director of Photography, Editor, Composer, Production Designer, and others will be named during July. Locations will be scouted and established. A line-budget, as well as storyboards and detailed shot lists, and a cast will be assembled, with Zero Point and the writer each having 50% input over all decisions.
Shooting should commence at some point between July 1st and August 15th, generally using weekend shoots to save money. All photography will be complete by August 15th, 2013

A first assembly cut should be ready within 3 weeks of presentation to the editor, with the goal of a final cut to be established within 6 weeks of completion of photography
Completion of music should occur within 4 weeks of establishing a final cut.
Final sound editing/mixing should be complete within 2 weeks of completion of music.
The short will be exhibited out of competition at the NYNL Summit in 11/2013. This will be an unofficial premier, and the director and Zero Point will confer about subsequent festival submissions/premiers, each party with 50% input.
Both the writer and Zero Point Films will maintain 50% ownership of the final product, including any revenues generated from the film, as well as any rights of the film, including remake and sequel rights.
