Environmental Sustainability
A juried award. Films of all lengths are assessed for environmental sustainability messaging and storytelling.
This prize is shared with other categories.

Best Feature Film
Films 70 minutes and over in length. Prize is the prestigious bronze Huia Feather sculpture by reknowned New Zealand sculptor Paul Dibble.
Value of Goods/Services: 2,000 U.S. Dollar

Best Mid Length Film
Film length: 25 minutes or more, up to 70 minutes.

Best Short Film
Film length less than 25 minutes.

Best New Zealand Film
Open to New Zealand nationals, or films substantially made by New Zealanders - either in New Zealand or elsewhere. Prize is the prestigious bronze Huia Feather sculpture by reknowned New Zealand sculptor Paul Dibble.
This prize is shared with other categories.

Category Rules

Films in this category are judged on two criteria:

1. CONTENT & EFFECT
The content is topical and relevant to nature and environmental themes, and presented in a way that has a strong and lasting impact.

The content is clear, fair, and convincing to the audience. It leaves a lasting impression and causes people to reflect on, discuss and debate the film and its topic for a long time after viewing.

2. TECHNIQUE
An appropriate range of story telling, cinematic and film editing techniques are used in ways that enhance the experience for the audience and the purpose/meaning of the film.

Craft awards recognising excellence in: cinematography; editing; script; original sound track and use of animation in both stop motion and CGI may be presented when the jury deems it adds to the artistic merits of the film or stirs the audience emotionally.
