The Peace, Love and Happiness Award
Accepted film entries from all categories are eligible. The prize will be awarded at the F3 screening during the SXSW Film Festival Community Screenings, in March 2017. It will go to the film chosen by the Judges as the Peace, Love and Happiness winner. Only one winner will be selected. Winning filmmaker does not need to be present to win.

1st Place
All accepted Short Films entries are eligible to win 1st Place laurels. Winner will be announced at the F3 screening during the SXSW Film Festival Community Screenings, in March of 2017. Laurels will be awarded for the the film chosen by the Judges as the 1st Place Winner in the Short Films category. In event of a tie, both films will be declared winners. The winning filmmaker(s) does not need to be present to win.

2nd Place
All accepted Short Films entries are eligible to win 2nd Place laurels. Winner will be announced at the F3 screening during the SXSW Film Festival Community Screenings, in March of 2017. Laurels will be awarded for the the film chosen by the Judges as the 2nd Place Winner in the Short Films category. In event of a tie, both films will be declared winners. The winning filmmaker(s) does not need to be present to win.

3rd Place
All accepted Short Films entries are eligible to win 3rd Place laurels. Winner will be announced at the F3 screening during the SXSW Film Festival Community Screenings, in March of 2017. Laurels will be awarded for the the film chosen by the Judges as the 3rd Place Winner in the Short Films category. In event of a tie, both films will be declared winners. Best Live Action Film
Accepted film entries from all categories are eligible. The prize will be awarded at the F3 screening during the SXSW Film Festival Community Screenings, in March 2017. Laurels will be awarded for the the film chosen by the Judges as the Best Live Action Film. Only one winner will be selected. Winning filmmaker does not need to be present to win.

Best Animated Film
Accepted film entries from all categories are eligible. The prize will be awarded at the F3 screening during the SXSW Film Festival Community Screenings, in March 2017. Laurels will be awarded for the the film chosen by the Judges as the Best Animated Film. Only one winner will be selected. Winning filmmaker does not need to be present to win.

Category Rules

Films entered into this category can be up to 20 minutes long. This year's theme is "We the Forest". Filmmakers are encouraged to combine their interpretation of the theme with a forest-related topic to create their films.

All film styles (documentary, animated, stop-motion, etc.) are accepted. Amateur and professional independent filmmakers of any age and at any stage in their career may enter. You may enter separate films from the same creator, but each film requires a separate submission and a separate entry fee. Films entered must be completed after December 31, 2015.
