Prizes & Awards
This category is a competition.

Halekulani Golden Orchid Award
The Halekulani Golden Orchid Awards are bestowed upon the feature and documentary films that best express pure artistry, technical excellence and promote cross-cultural understanding. Like the endemic orchids of native Hawaii, these awards recognize singular achievement amid collective beauty. Each nominated film furthers the Hawaii International Film Festival mandate. The Halekulani Golden Orchid Award takes the form of a beautiful crystal statue provided by Tiffany and Co. Our international jury of film professionals bestows the Halekulani Golden Orchid upon the narrative films and documentaries, which, in addition to exhibiting unique artistry and technical excellence, best promote cultural understanding. Jurors are also asked to consider films for a limited number of special awards, if they wish. Directors of nominated films will receive a travel stipend and 4 nights hotel accommodations.

Category Rules
Entries must be mailed with the correct entry fee for the postmarked date. You must pay by check, money order, Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. Checks or money orders must be in U.S. dollars only and made payable to HAWAII INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. International entrants must pay by credit card or an international money order (paid in U.S. dollars through a U.S. bank). No exceptions will be made. Do not send cash.

Submissions must be postmarked by the appropriate deadline listed and include the correct entry fee. We will not consider films submitted or postmarked after June 5, 2015. Films must have been completed after January 1, 2014.

Films must not have had any commercial, theatrical, or television play in Hawaii (Hawaii minimum premiere). Feature-length films must not have had any public or festival screenings in the state of Hawaii.

We encourage filmmakers to submit works from any genre. We are especially interested in feature films, documentaries, short films, Hawaii-themed films, films by filmmakers from other countries currently living in the U.S., and music videos.

We are particularly interested in presenting U.S. and World premieres. We will consider works-in- progress, films with temporary soundtracks, digital outputs and work that did not originate from film. Films with dialogue in a language other than English must be subtitled in English for Festival presentation.
