Animated short rules:
Animated shorts are films that are shorter than 50 minutes, may be from any genre and feature any type of frame by frame animation. In addition to the reasons below, we created the animated shorts category to draw a bright distinction between the craft of "traditional" filmmaking and the craft of animation. While there is a lot of crossover, we want to recognize the unique challenges in each medium.
Animated shorts are in a distinct category because, as the medium tends to be time and resource intensive, it has been our collective experience that these films, especially from true independents, tend to be shorts. If you DO happen to have an animated feature, we would still love to see it! However, once you are playing at that level, the more appropriate category will be narrative features.
If you've got it, send it! Experimental films, art house, dramas, horror, action films, thrillers, we simply love film at SaMo Indie. If it resonates with our staff, we'll program it! And, unlike most festivals out there, our screening team is entirely comprised of people who actually work in the film industry and have a combined total of over 40 years experience!
There are no wannabe film critics or senior citizen volunteer screeners here. When you submit to SaMo Indie, your film will be seen by people who live, breathe and actually work in film! As long as it's not illegal, we are interested in seeing your film!
