This category is a competition.
All films screened at VIWIFF 2014 will receive an exhibition payment as well as being entered to win cash prizes.
The Vancouver International Women in Film Festival accepts documentary, narrative, animated and experimental mid-length films.
To be eligible at least three of the following creative roles must have been filled by a woman: Writer, Producer, Director, Cinematographer, Editor, Composer, Lead Performer (one woman may serve in more than one role).
Films that have received television or theatrical release in the Vancouver, B.C area prior to the festival are not eligible. (Festival screenings are not considered as theatrical release.)
Films that are accessible to the public to view or download online are not eligible.
Films must have been completed after March 2012.
On-line screeners are accepted through WAB.
Alternatively, you may submit your screeners as two DVD copies sent by mail to the festival. If you are shipping internationally, the customs declaration should state that the preview video is “for cultural purposes” and has a value no higher than $2. DVD screeners may be either PAL or NTSC and must be labeled with the film title, running time and filmmaker contact information. The festival is not responsible for compatibility issues if DVD preview copies do not play. Preview DVDs will not be returned. Do not send paper press kits with your submission DVDs.
A list of the film's credits, including the gender of the Writer, Producer, Director, Cinematographer, Editor, Composer and Lead Performer, must be included with your submission, as well as a short synopsis, the film’s running time, genre and screening history. A press kit is not required at the time of submission.

Submission deadlines and regular submission fees are as follows, fees are non-refundable:
Short films (under 20 minutes):
If received by the early bird deadline of August 15th – $20
If received by the regular deadline of September 15th – $25
If received by the late deadline of October 15th – $30
If received by the extended late deadline of October 30th – $35
Mid-length films (between 20 and 60 minutes) :
If received by the early bird deadline of August 15th – $25
If received by the regular deadline of September 15th – $30
If received by the late deadline of October 15th – $35
If received by the extended late deadline of October 30th – $40
Feature films (over 60 minutes):
If received by the early bird deadline of August 15th – $30
If received by the regular deadline of September 15th – $35
If received by the late deadline of October 15th – $40
If received by the extended late deadline of October 30th – $45
SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION
Submissions will be reviewed by a selection of jurors appointed by the Festival Committee, a committee of the Board of Directors of Women in Film and Television Vancouver.
Filmmakers will be notified of the decision by mid January 2015.
All communications will be sent electronically, including selection and notification letters. Please make sure the email address and phone number provided on the entry form are correct!
If selected for VIWIFF 2015, acceptance of the invitation to screen at the festival must be received within one week of notification.
If selected for VIWIFF 2015, exhibition copies must be delivered to WIFTV by January 31, 2015.
Exhibition copies must be accompanied by a link to a password protected site where festival organizers and press can view your film. If this is not possible, two (unprotected) DVD copies will be accepted.
Filmmakers, or their representatives, of selected films must cover the cost of shipping to the festival. The festival will cover return shipping.
Exhibition formats will be accepted in PAL or NTSC, but must be one of the following: Blu-ray, Digi BetaCam, HDCam, DCP
At the time of acceptance, the following electronic promotional materials must be delivered: a short synopsis, a minimum of one (1) still photograph from the film, a list of the film’s credits, links to any social media sites or reviews related to the film, a list of awards (if any) the film has received, a list of all places the film has or will have screened prior to VIWIFF 2015.
If selected by VIWIFF 2015, a short clip or clips from the film (up to two minutes), in high resolution, must be delivered by January 31, 2015. These will be used for the festival trailer and other promotional opportunities.
Promotional materials of films selected for VIWIFF 2015 become the property of VIWIFF 2015 and can be used to promote VIWIFF 2015 in all media, including film, television, radio and the Internet.
