Category Rules

To qualify for Project Catalyst, entrants must comply with ALL of the following Rules and Eligibility Requirements. Failure to comply with these rules will render a submission ineligible.

Beginning this year, Project Catalyst submissions can now be submitted via Withoutabox.com. This is in keeping with our ongoing efforts to encourage a more paperless submissions policy. For ease and accuracy of online submission, submit your film to Project Catalyst via The International Film Festival Submission System (BrigitFest) – on the Web at Withoutabox.com.

Members who choose to upgrade their project on Withoutabox also get $5.00 off their Entry Fees. Click over to Withoutabox, then follow instructions to apply online:


You will be creating a Script Project form specific to this competition. To create your Script project please select the “Add a Project” link from the left-side navigation on your Withoutabox account homepage and select the script option. Once you have created and titled the project, hit the save option and then select the Account Home link from the left side navigation. Please do NOT upload the requested PDF file until after you have made your submission and received the confirmation page, as you will need to include your Withoutabox tracking number. You will not receive the tracking number until the submission has been made. To submit, select Project Catalyst from the “Call for Scripts” apply menu located in the right side bar of your Withoutabox account homepage and follow the prompts.

AFTER submitting your application, return to your Withoutabox account homepage to submit a PDF file via the upload link directly below your project title.

Please submit one (1) PDF document containing the following items (do NOT send separately):

• A letter of intent (no more than 1 page) describing yourself, your project and how Project Catalyst will be helpful for you.

• For Film: A treatment and/or feature-length screenplay, with the title page clearly labeled with the Withoutabox.com submission I.D. number.

• For Television: A completed half-hour or hour original pilot script (SPEC scripts will not be accepted), with the title page clearly labeled with Withoutabox.com submission I.D. number.For Television: A completed half-hour or hour original pilot script and a
sample SPEC television script, with the title page clearly labeled with
Withoutabox.com submission I.D. number.

• A budget top sheet or summary that breaks down the total funding needed for the Film, and reflects any other money that has already been secured. Teleplay entries do not require a budget.

• Bios and contact information for key filmmaker(s)/applicant(s), and producer if one is attached to the project. The director and/or writer attached to the project must be of Asian Pacific descent. Additionally, applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Separate of the Submissions Materials, please mail the following:

• A DVD of Applicant’s prior work (examples of prior work include a webisode, short film, feature film, music video, commercial, TV show, etc.), wherein Applicant was either the writer of director. DO NOT provide reels or more than one sample work. DVD must be clearly labeled with Withoutabox.com submission I.D. number, project title, sample work’s title and run time, Applicant’s name, contact information, and credit.

• A hi-res headshot (300-dpi JPEG, at least 5”x7”), of team members, to be e-mailed to: festival@vconline.org.


• October 15, 2013: Submissions open
• December 20, 2013: Early Submissions end | Fee: $55
• January 31, 2014: Regular Submissions end | Fee: $65
• February 28, 2014: Late Submissions end | Fee: $80

All materials will need to be received by the corresponding deadline date.

PAYMENT ONLINE: Can be made with a credit card by filling out card information.

Entries will not be considered complete until all of the materials are received. Please refer to the Filmmaker Checklist above. All hardcopy submission materials must have the Withoutabox.com submission I.D. number written on each item and must be RECEIVED (NOT postmarked) by the entry deadline dates.

Visual Communications will make every effort to safeguard the materials submitted; however VC will not be responsible for lost or stolen submissions. Submissions will not be returned.
