Category Rules

Films must not have been completed before January 1st, 2013.

Films must be child and family friendly and free of any excessive or gratuitous profanity, nudity, violence or verbal abuse. Furthermore films must not contain content that attacks or demeans a group based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status or sexual orientation/gender identity

Within the “Films By Kids” division – all films must be written and directed by the entrant with minimal help from an adult. An adult may not alter the creative integrity of the work.

Films cannot be tied to a U.S. DOMESTIC DISTRIBUTION DEAL. Once selected, the filmmaker must have available either a DCP OR video “print” (Minimum Video Format is Quicktime) for projection. Because of quality issues - we do NOT project from DVD or Blu-Ray.

Failure to produce such print one week prior to the screening date will result in a liability to DWF in the amount of $500.

Individual and group or school projects will be considered.

Participants agree that clips from their film and all other material related to their project may be used and/or published in the event program, DWF web site and for any promotional purposes which DWF deems appropriate.

No viewing tapes and/or promotional materials will be returned to the filmmaker.

Films should be original in content including music and should not include any copyrighted film or television clips, or shots of branded products or company logos. If your film is selected and contains music, clips or brands that do not belong to you, DWF may require you to obtain consent to use the music, clips or brands as a condition of screening your film. In addition any and all minors appearing in your film must have the consent of their parent or guardian to participate and appear. If selected, all commercial/private property including ALL trademark copy-righted materials shown or recorded on the project is the responsibility of the filmmaker. DWF will NOT take responsibility for any infringement of copy-written materials.

Classification of film lengths: Music Videos; 10 minutes or less, Shorts (doc or narrative); 40 minutes or less, Features may be 41 minutes or longer.

The cost of delivery and pick-up of all materials is the responsibility of the filmmaker.

DWF holds no responsibility for lost or damaged prints. While the utmost care will be taken with regard to prints, it is solely up to the filmmaker to take full responsibility (i.e. - insurance).
