Category Rules

REGULATIONS

The 49th Student Film Festival will be held in Montreal, from August 25-29, 2018, during the Montreal World Film Festival.

1. AIM
The aim of the Student Film Festival is to help discover new talent by presenting films made by students from schools and universities within the framework of an international event.

2. CATEGORIES
Films with any running time are accepted in the following categories:
• FICTION
• ANIMATION
• DOCUMENTARY
• EXPERIMENTAL

3. SECTIONS

3.1. NATIONAL CANADIAN COMPETITION
The following prizes will be awarded:
- NORMAN McLAREN AWARD 􀀋Best Film􀀌
- AWARDS BY CATEGORY: FICTION, ANIMATION,
DOCUMENTARY, EXPERIMENTAL
Honourable mentions may also be conferred.

3.2. INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
The following prizes will be awarded:
- BEST FILM
- AWARDS BY CATEGORY: FICTION, ANIMATION,
DOCUMENTARY, EXPERIMENTAL
Honourable mentions may also be conferred.

4. ELIGIBILITY
Students who are, or were, studying in schools or universities (or other recognized educational institutions) during the production of their film, are eligible.
The film must have been completed after the last Student Film Festival.
The film should not have been presented on the Internet or in another festival in Canada. A student may submit several films.

Running time:
• feature films of 60 minutes or longer;
• medium-length films of 36 to 60 minutes;
• short films of 35 minutes or less

5. REGISTRATION
THE SUBMISSION DEALINE: JUNE 8, 2018.
The film is submitted:
• through WITHOUTABOX (preferably)

• OR directly to the Festival by sending before 5pm on JUNE 8, to:
program@ffm-montreal.org

a) VIMEO link with password;
b) Completed ENTRY FORM for each film. If your film is selected, the information in this form will be used to prepare the Festival catalogue. Please fill it out carefully and completely.
c) The entry fee of CAD 60 per film.

IMPORTANT: The entry form and entry fee are mandatory for each submitted film.

6. SELECTED FILM
As soon as you have received confirmation of the selection of your film, please send a film still for reproduction in the catalogue (the email address will be indicated in the confirmation letter);

6.1. SCREENING COPY FORMATS
a) For a feature or medium-length film: DCP OR Hard Drive with a ProRes422 file OR Blu-ray

b) For a short film (35 min or less): only a ProRes422 file link sent to:
program@ffm-montreal.org

6.2 SHIPPING
The screening copy of a feature or medium-length film should be sent PREPAID and before August 10 to the following address:

IMPORTANT:
The declared customs value of a package sent to Canada must not exceed CAD 10.

7. SHIPPING CHARGES
Each film should be sent PREPAID. Participants are responsible for transportation costs BOTH WAYS.

8. INSURANCE
Arrangements for insuring the films during transportation to and from the Festival must be made by the participants. The Festival will be responsible for the films while in its possession. The Festival cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage made to a film during transit.

9. EXCERPTS FOR TELEVISION & INTERNET
The Festival may authorize television broadcast of a short excerpt of any production included in the Student Film Festival. The Festival may make available one excerpt on its website for the promotion of the film.

10. AGREEMENT
Submission of a film to the Festival implies acceptance of these regulations. Selected films may not be withdrawn from the Festival after they have been confirmed. The direction of the Festival will rule on all cases not foreseen by these regulations.
