This category is a competition.


Special Jury Award
The Grand Jury winner of the Opera Prima Competition category will receive cash awards in the amount of $10,000.


Audience Choice Award


CATEGORY RULES
First-time feature filmmakers from Spain, Portugal and/or Latin America will compete for a $5,000 USD cash prize

•Must be 60 minutes or longer in TRT
•This category is open only to first-time filmmakers from Ibero-America
•Preference will be given to World, International and U.S. premieres, but must be at minimum a Florida Premiere at MIFF 2014.
•Must not have been or be scheduled for public consumption through any form of public broadcast (including internet) or commercial theatrical engagement in the US prior to March 20, 2014**
•Film’s world premiere must have occurred after March 2013
•Projects must originate from Spain, Portugal, the Caribbean, or any Latin American country, OR originate from the US and contain a central Latino theme or character
•Exhibition format must be DCP


** Exceptions may be made for films with limited VOD releases outside of Florida or limited online releases associated with international Festival premieres
