Category Rules

All narrative films should present a dramatized story (whether entirely invented or based on actual events) performed by actors under the direction of the filmmaker. All dramatic forms and genres are eligible, from light comedy to heavy drama.

All documentary films should present actuality footage and/or interview footage and/or illustrative graphics creatively assembled to tell a reality-based story for purposes of explanation and/or polemic and/or entertainment.

All films in the animation/experimental category should be a) a film that generates the illusion of motion from individually captured or created images rather than from the conventional filming or videotaping of a 3-dimensional moving subject and/or b) a film that is based upon the creative treatment of abstract imagery and/or concrete images arranged in a non-narrative form.

The festival is primarily a student one and therefore, places education as its highest priority. Both student and non-student films may be submitted to the festival and screened during the festival itself but only student films will be placed in competition for prizes.

Only North Carolina students can apply to this category with films made during or after January 2008.
