Prizes & Awards

This category is a competition.

Gold Shorts
The Gold Shorts winner will be awarded a trip to a major international film festival - Cannes, Annecy, Berlin, Sundance - in consultation with the winner. The prize includes return airfare, quality accommodation and festival registration.

Silver Shorts
Production services and/or equipment, in consultation with the winner, from BoomSound, one of Australia’s leading feature film, television and documentary post-production facilities.

Black Shorts
The winner of the Best Indigenous Film category will be awarded the Black Shorts prize, valued at $10,000, to be determined in consultation with the winner. The intent of the prize is to foster the making of indigenous films and may be awarded as a trip to an international film festival, as ongoing education and professional development, or as equipment.

Best Young Filmmaker
This is a chance for young filmmakers 25 years and under to shine. The winner of the Best Young Filmmaker category will be awarded post production services – including editing and colour grading – to the value of $7,000 plus equipment hire and production services – including camera hire and DOPs – to the value of $3,000 from Kojo Group, a market innovator and leader in the Australian content, digital, events and post space.

Merit Prizes
Various cash and goods and services prizes, details to be confirmed. All finalists will be awarded a Screen Hub membership for one year and will have their film screened at the Shorts Film Festival. Check the website for updates on more prizes!

Category Rules

ELIGIBILITY
To submit in the Australian Shorts category of the Shorts Film Festival, the film must:

1) be able to demonstrate significant Australian input
2) be no longer than 20 minutes
3) have been competed after February 1, 2013

The Festival Manager's decision is final.

AWARDS CRITERIA
Gold Shorts, Silver Shorts and Merit Prizes (with the exception of the Merit Prize for Best Screenwriter) will be awarded to ONE of director, producer or screenwriter of the film. The Merit Prize for Best Screenwriter will be awarded to the screenwriter.

Black Shorts - To meet the criteria for the this prize, the filmmaker/s (at least ONE of director, producer, screenwriter) must be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, identifying as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and recognised as such in the Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community..

Best Young Filmmaker - To meet the criteria for this prize, the filmmaker/s (at least ONE of director or producer, screenwriter) must be under the age of 26 at the time of entry.
