Category Rules

-- Short Films are under 40 minutes in length.

-- Competition is open to U.S. and International fiction entries.

-- Films by TN Filmmakers should enter the Tennessee First Shorts Competition. College students should enter the College Student Shorts Competition. Filmmakers under 18 should enter the Young Filmmakers Competition.

-- Films that have shown theatrically with purchasable tickets or been broadcast on television in Tennessee prior to the Festival or are available for sale on DVD or VOD in any capacity are NOT eligible for competition. Cast/Crew or Family/Friend screenings do not disqualify film from entry.

-- Entries must have been completed after January 1, 2018. World or North American premieres get first preference. Next preference is given to films whose premieres occurred after September 1, 2018. However, films we really like, premiere status does not really matter.

-- We prefer to pre-screen films via Vimeo links or other online screening format. We will accept DVD or BluRay.

-- If you are burning a consumer disc, write your Project Title, Film ID# and Contact #, and runtime on the disc in a clear and legible fashion. PLEASE test your consumer-burned DVD on several makes and models of players BEFORE sending it to our offices. We try to contact those with disc errors, but some may simply be disqualified if time becomes tight.

-- Works in progress are accepted but are not encouraged. Please only submit works in progress if close to the final deadline as we may not have time to view re-edited submissions.

-- You may submit multiple entries but you must complete an entry form and pay an entry fee for each film.

-- Entries from previous years are accepted IF significant changes have been made since the previous submission.

-- Due to the large number of entries received, not all films will be viewed in their entirety before decisions are made. Short films are viewed in groups of three or more before an up or down decision is made in the initial viewing round. Not all of our screeners and programmers are based in Tennessee

FESTIVAL SCREENING
The individual or corporation submitting the film warrants that it is authorized to and, upon acceptance, can commit the film to three screenings at any time during the 2019 Nashville Film Festival, October 3-12, 2019 (NashFilm). Selected entries must send festival exhibition copies on approved formats by September 3, 2019 - unless otherwise explicitly arranged. Accepted films that need to pull due to completion or scheduling issues MUST pull by August 1, 2019 or they WILL be screened as submitted.

LIABILITY
Every possible care will be taken with entries while in our possession, however, we cannot accept responsibility for loss, damage or additional charges incurred en route, or due to normal wear and tear during play on the festival circuit, or due to equipment error. Do not send original prints or master copies. Additionally, NashFIlm is held harmless from any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity or screening of any film.

For films accepted into the Festival, the entrant is responsible for inbound shipping. In most cases, NashFilm will pay the cost of shipping the print to the next destination. However, the Festival will not be responsible for unnecessary expedited or overnight shipping charges to other destinations.

REPRODUCTION AGREEMENT
Submission of an entry grants NaFF permission to have clips, stills and images from accepted works (including marketing material) locally telecast in part, and shown, either in part or whole, for educational or promotional purposes ONLY to NaFF stakeholders (sponsors, cultural partners, jurors etc.).
