Category Rules

General Eligibility

These regulations apply to all sections:
-Films must have been completed after January 1, 2014
-HIFF will not consider previously submitted films
-Films may not have been released theatrically or shown on television in the U.S. prior to the festival. We also prefer that films not be available online prior to the festival.
-We prefer films to have not screened on the East End of Long Island prior to the festival's dates. If there are any questions regarding premiere status, please contact us at programming@hamptonsfilmfest.org
-The Hamptons presents all films in their original language. Non-English language films must have English subtitles
-If you are submitting a work-in-progress, the DVD must be clearly marked as a work-in-progress or rough cut. The festival will only be able to consider one version of each film submitted and does not accept replacement cuts for consideration. Please take this into account when deciding when to submit your film.
- HDCam & DCP are the preferred exhibition format for the festival. HDCAM1080/59.94i and 1080/23.98 psf and Apple Pro Res - 1920x1080i - Stereo Sound
- For programming consideration, the festival will also consider Vimeo links for the complete film. Please email your Vimeo link to Programming@hamptonsfilmfest.org once your submission is complete

Jury Award Eligibility (Please read carefully):
-Awarded to one film in each category: Narrative Feature, Documentary Feature, Narrative Short, and Documentary Short.
-Preference given to emerging filmmakers
-Preference will be given to films that have at least a NY State Premiere
-Preference will be given to films that have not shown in more than a total of five US festivals prior to the HIFF dates and that have not announced US distribution.
