Category Rules

General Eligibility

These regulations apply to all sections:
-Films must have been completed after January 1, 2012
-The Hamptons will not consider previously submitted films
-Films may not have been released theatrically, online or shown on television in the U.S. prior to the festival
-We prefer films to have not screened on the East End of Long Island prior to The Hamptons dates. If there are any questions regarding premiere status, please contact the Festival at programming@hamptonsfilmfest.org
-The Hamptons presents all films in their original language. Non-English language films must have English subtitles
-If you are submitting a work- in- progress, the DVD must be clearly marked as a work- in- progress or rough cut. HIFF can only consider one version of each film submitted and cannot accept updated cuts. Please keep this in mind when deciding when to submit.
- HDCam is the preferred exhibition format for the festival.
- HIFF will exhibit 35mm and DCP at the festival's discretion.

Conflict & Resolution Eligibility (Please read carefully):
- The Conflict & Resolution section is specifically for films that improve our understanding of the realities of war and conflict around the world. If you have any questions about whether or not your film is in line with the mission of this program, please contact us at programming@hamptonsfilmfest.org
- While this section is primarily for feature films, we may also exhibit shorts. If you feel that your long form short best belongs in the films of Conflict & Resolution section, feel free to submit it here.
