CATEGORY RULES
The 2012 Uptown Film Film Festival is presented by Nu Wave Films. The festival will have special programmingwith multiple nominations that will recognize excellence in independent filmmaking , including directors, actors, cinematographers, and writers.

Open to all filmmakers


Final Deadline, all short films must be received by the respectable deadline.

GENERAL RULES

Uptown Film Festival will honor and acknowledge Michigan films in such categories as Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Editing.

Uptown will honor other awards for Best Feature and Best Short.

Definitions of Categories and Terms

o The Uptown Film Festival is geared towards both features, shorts in all forms. We welcome any genre including animation and docs.

o Short Film: a narrative, animated or experimental film 44 minutes or less in length.

o Feature Film: At least 45 minutes in length.


Eligibility Regulations

Completion Date: , all films must have been completed after June 2012 to be eligible for the 4th Annual Michigan Film Awards

All entries must be postmarked before the deadline date, 9/1/2013

Submission Regulations

Deadline:

All film submissions must be shipped and packed in proper containers to arrive at the UFF offices no later than the respective deadlines:


Entry Fee Format:


ll films must be submitted on DVD, either NTSC or PAL.

Accompanying Materials:

The following materials must be included with the DVD, Entry materials will not be returned. Incomplete entries will not be considered.

Submission Labeling & Shipping:

All submissions must be labeled with the film title, running time and contact information and WAB Tracking # (including name, address and phone number, as well with the entry form) Screeners and shipping documents should be marked: Without commercial value, for cultural purposes only. Press kits are embraced, but not mandatory.

Receipt Acknowledgment.

Notification:

Selected Films will be announced and e-mailed to all entries by Sept, 15th 2013

Shipping:

UFF does not assume any liability for damage to prints due to improper containers or otherwise. All films in our possession will be insured against damage or loss while participating in the event .



The Categories

Best Picture


Shorts under 30 mins are welcome; the content can be narrative or experimental. All genre’s and style’s will be considered. The consideration is broad but the winner is really defined. The work must be created, engaging, and technically marvelous. Results in determining Best Michigan Made Short film will be voted by the UFF that has a wide range of demographics that will make the judging fair and balanced. The GRAND PRIZE will win the Best Short Award.

Best Director

These nominations and award will be given to the director that has crafted a short film that has the best casting, staging, storytelling, and pacing.

Best Actor/Best Actress

The success of a movie depends highly on the performance of an actor/actress. This award will be given to acknowledge the caliber of an actor who has delivered a skillful and outstanding performance.

Best Screenplay

The very first stages in filmmaking is the screenplay, this award will acknowledge strong writing with a compelling story.

Best Cinematography

Films will be judged by cinematographers that will determine films with the best photography that include the best lighting, framing, and composition.
