Best Young Filmmaker
The da Vinci Film Festival is seeking imaginative, innovative, and entertaining original works originating on any format and delivered in NTSC DVD format. Any style is welcome, including Narrative, Documentary, Animation, Experimental, Music Video, or other. In January/February, we will contact filmmakers of short films requesting they upload a file to a secure Dropbox, to maintain the highest quality for compiling discs into viewing blocs.
Films by Young Filmmakers can be any length up to 15 minutes.
- Young Filmmakers (Middle school through 12th grade)
Productions must be independently produced, with the filmmaker retaining complete editorial control (i.e., no industrial or advertising films will be accepted). Educational films produced at schools and colleges are acceptable. The language in all submissions must be in English or be subtitled in English and in NTSC format. PAL will not be accepted. Each submitted film must be the filmmaker’s original work. The festival may request evidence to ascertain proof of originality.

Filmmakers may submit more than one work, but please do not include more than one film per DVD. Each entry requires a separate entry fee.

Student filmmakers must send a copy of a student ID with each submission as proof of eligibility. If a film submitted as a Student film arrives without proof of eligibility, it will be considered disqualified until a valid ID is received or until the filmmaker pays to register as an Independent filmmaker.
AWARDS AND JUDGING
Awards will be decided by a panel of judges. Spirit of daVinci and Emerging Artist cash prizes will be sent by mail following the festival.
Each submission must include the following:
- Submission piece(s) labeled with title, category, director’s name, aspect ratio and running time. (Please do not include more than one film per submission.)
- Completed entry form.
- Photocopy of student ID (if entering as a student).
Incomplete submissions will not be considered for inclusion in the festival.
SHIPPING AND RETURN OF ENTRIES
Submissions must be shipped prepaid in a suitable container and postmarked by Feb 10th. Insurance is the responsibility of the submitter. We will not accept COD shipments.
International entries must be shipped “free domicile” to the festival address. All transportation charges, duties, and taxes must be prepaid by the shipper. Please be sure to include proper customs documentation as required by your shipping service, including a label marked “For Festival Screening Only. No Commercial Value.” The entrant’s name and production title must be included with each submission. No PAL, please - NTSC only.
Please send 2 copies of your submission. Submissions cannot be returned.
PRESS KITS AND CORRESPONDENCE WITH FESTIVAL COMMITTEE
Notification of receipt and screening status will be sent to filmmakers by e-mail. If you cannot provide an e-mail address, please include two self-addressed, stamped postcards.
Please include a press kit with each submission. (A press kit is required for all entries selected for screening.) Press kits should include a 25-word-or-less log line, a synopsis, photos from the fim, a cast list, and bios of principals. If you are a Student filmmaker, you also may describe (in 25 words or less) the learning goal or experimentation in making the piece.
DISCLAIMER / LIABILITY
Reasonable efforts will be made to protect submissions from damage or loss. However, the festival, its management, juries, and the da Vinci Days Board of Directors cannot be held liable for damage or loss of submitted materials.
The da Vinci Film Festival reserves the right to close the call for entries ahead of published deadlines. All rights, including archive rights, music rights, and relevant appearance releases are the sole responsibility of the entrant. Relevant documentation may be requested as a condition of screening. Entry into the festival acknowledges agreement to all conditions.
UNLESS OTHERWISE REQUESTED ON SUBMISSION FORM, SUBMISSION OF AN ENTRY GIVES THE FESTIVAL PERMISSION TO HAVE THE ACCEPTED WORK PHOTOGRAPHED, AND REPRODUCED FOR PUBLICITY PURPOSES. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT POST ENTIRE FILMS ONLINE. FILMS MAY ALSO BE SHOWN AS PART OF A PREVIEW SCREENING FOR THE FESTIVAL, FOR A SPECIFIC AUDIENCE , OR AS AN ENCORE PRESENTATION TO PROMOTE THE DA VINCI DAYS FESTIVAL.
SELECTED FILMS WILL BE SHOWCASED AT THE DA VINCI DAYS FESTIVAL IN JULY.
