Category Rules

*Participation in the Festival implies acceptance of all Festival rules and regulations.

Submitted scripts must be original works; owned entirely by author(s) and cannot be under option, sold or produced. Scripts must be in English. We will NOT consider or evaluate any screenplays that are of an R-rated nature (i.e., those that depict extreme violence, graphic nudity, or glamorize the use of drugs, cigarettes, or alcohol).

We accept electronic format or printed single- or double-sided on 3-hole white paper with the pages numbered. A valid entry will include a copy of your script with the title only; a separate, unbound page with the title, your contact info and WGA registration number (if applicable). If paper, scripts must be fastened with 2-3 brads with (optional) blank cardstock covers. Online submissions must be in either Final Draft, PDF or RTF format and include the same title page requirements. Under no circumstances should you include your name or contact information within the body of your script. We also request but do not require a separate one page (maximum) synopsis of the script with title included and a bio/resume for each author/collaborator. Substitutions of new drafts will not be accepted after entry.

Hard-copy submissions must contain eligible scripts(s), a signed, initialed and completed application, entry fee (check, money order or credit card information), and, if you want notification that we have received your materials, a self-addressed-stamped postcard. Hard-copy submissions must be mailed (USPS, UPS, etc…) via a delivery method that does not require a signature. Online submissions through Withoutabox must contain eligible script (as a PDF, RTF or Final Draft file), valid credit card information and a valid email address. Confirmation of receipt of online submissions will be only done via automated form email at the time the script is entered.

Judging will be anonymous, so we will assign your script a number and we will delete or black out your name and contact information before we give your script to the Judges. The Judges will identify your screenplay solely by its title and script number. Scripts are evaluated by judges based on the strength of concept, execution, characterization, dialogue, plot and marketability. Judges decisions are final.

Writers retain all rights to submitted material. Life Fest will assume no ownership of submitted material. Life Fest assumes no responsibility if the material submitted is not the author's property.

While it is not a requirement for entry in the Life Fest script competition, we do recommend that you register your script before submitting it to any company or individual you do not personally know. You can register your script with the U.S. Copyright Office, and you can also register online with ProtectRite or the WGA. As disinterested third parties, these services establish the completion date of your registered material and offer the security of long-term storage in the event your original is lost or destroyed.
