Prizes & Awards

This category is a competition.

Jury Award- Best Documentary Short
The Jury Award for Best Documentary Short is chosen by a select jury of filmmakers, film scholars and industry professionals. The winner of this award qualifies to be considered for the Academy Award in the Best Documentary Short Film category provided it meets other Academy eligibility requirements. The winner of this award in 2015 was THE MURDER BALLAD OF JAMES JONES (Jesse Kreitzer).
Value of Goods/Services: 2,500 U.S. Dollar

Audience Award- Short
The Audience Award is open to voting by audience members at each screening. Narrative, Documentary, Animation, Puppetry and Experimental Shorts are eligible.

Category Rules

1) To be considered for competition, films must have been completed AFTER January 2015.

2) It is the responsibility of the filmmaker and/or submitter to secure permission and authorization for any and all copyrighted/trademarked content included in the film being submitted. This includes, but is not limited to music, video and images.

3) If you're a distributor or sales agent submitting a film, please contact us by email (submit@atlantafilmfestival.com) immediately after submission to alert us. If your film has been picked up for distribution, please contact us as soon as possible. WE DO NOT PAY SCREENING FEES.

4) All filmmakers will be notified of acceptance status using contact info provided via Withoutabox.

5) Important: Academy Award Qualifying Requirements

Length – With titles, films must be shorter than 39:59 to qualify for the Documentary Shorts Competition.
