Documentary - Feature
STF seeks theatrical style documentaries. We tend towards new films that have received minimal exposure in New York. But we're also open to older works when a special guest can add value to the audience's experience.

To get a better idea of the kind of films we've programmed over 8 years, see: http://stfdocs.com/films/archives/

Our programming favors feature length films - 55 minutes in length or longer - although we do occasionally pair them with short films.

MISSION & OBJECTIVE
Stranger Than Fiction screens documentary films - including sneak previews, revivals and classics - accompanied by a Q&A with the filmmaker or special guest at the IFC Center in New York City.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Described as "indispensable" by New York magazine and "the best documentary programming" by Time Out NY, Stranger Than Fiction (STF) was founded in 2005 and has become one of the country's leading showcases for documentary film.

STF takes place every Tuesday over the course of 8-week seasons in winter, spring and fall. The series is hosted by Raphaela Neihausen and Thom Powers, the team behind the fall festival DOC NYC (http://DOCNYC.net) and the Montclair Film Festival (http://montclairfilmfest.org). Powers also programs docs for the Toronto International Film Festival and consults for the Miami International Film Festival.

Past STF guests include Steven Soderbergh, Michael Moore, Barbara Kopple, Laurie Anderson, Jonathan Demme, Ken Loach, Albert Maysles, D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus.
