MISSION & OBJECTIVE
The Unreal Film Festival is a Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror genre specific film festival. Accepting both short and feature length films, with multiple awards in each category, winning and selected films will be screened at the Unreal Film Festival, which is held in annually in September in Memphis, TN.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Unreal Film Festival accepts both short and feature length films, but only ones that fall into either the Horror, Sci-fi, or Fantasy genres.

Multiple awards are given by our judging panel including: Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best Student Short Film, Best Director, Best Leading Actor, Best Screenplay, & Best Cinematographer.

Selected films are announced in August and filmmakers and representatives are encouraged to attend and introduce their film. Space is also available to filmmakers who wish to sell copies of their film at the festival.

GENERAL RULES
The Unreal Film Festival is a Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Genre Specific film festival. Entries may be a mix of Sci-fi, Fantasy or Horror Genres as well as mix with comedy, documentary and other genres as well, but ALL entries must have elements of Sci-fi, Fantasy or Horror to be eligible for entry into the Festival. Films may be either short or feature length and multiple awards are available in each category. The festival is held annually in Memphis, TN. Selected filmmakers will also, should they choose, have the opportunity to sell film copies or film merchandise to audience members at the Festival.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1) If the Film’s final running time is projected to be less than 30 minutes, the Film may only be submitted as a Short Film. Student Short Films must also have a projected running time of less than 30 minutes. 2) If the Film’s final running time is projected to be 75 minutes or more, the Film may only be submitted as a Feature Film. 3) Films that have been previously released on DVD or broadcast on television or the internet in any country are not eligible for the Festival unless the version submitted is significantly different from the version that was previously released or broadcast. The Festival reserves the right to determine a previously released or broadcast project’s eligibility, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, based on the content of the submitted version of the film as compared with the previously released or broadcast version. 4) Films completed prior to January 1st, 2013 are not eligible to apply to the Festival for consideration for the 2014 Festival. 5) It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to secure clearance from the copyright holders of any copyrighted materials included within the submitted Film. The Festival will not be held responsible for the unauthorized inclusion of any copyrighted materials within or relating to the submitted Film. The Festival reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film with any unauthorized inclusion of copyrighted materials. 6) Applicants submitting Films that contain significant non-English spoken dialogue must provide on-screen English subtitles. The Festival reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film that contains significant non-English spoken dialogue that does not include accompanying on-screen English subtitles. 7) All Films must be submitted to us via a secure online screener with Withoutabox, Vimeo, or Youtube, or on a region 1 or region 0 NTSC DVD. The Festival reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from Applicant, any Film that is not submitted using one of these two formats. If the Film is submitted in multiple parts on multiple discs, the Festival reserves the right to judge the Film based on the first disc included, with no further obligation to view the contents of the remaining discs. 8) It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to ensure that the submitted DVD plays in its entirety on an industry-standard DVD player prior to submitting it to the Festival. In the event that a submitted disc does not play in an industry-standard standard DVD player, the Festival will attempt, but is under no obligation, to contact the Applicant using the contact information provided on the submission form in an effort to obtain a replacement copy of the Film. The Festival reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film whose initially submitted disc does not play on an industry-standard DVD player. 9) It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to ensure that the submitted disc arrives at the shipping destination provided to the Applicant upon completion of the submission form. In the event that a submitted disc does not arrive at the provided shipping destination within the deadline window selected by the Applicant, the Festival will attempt, but is under no obligation, to contact the Applicant using the contact information provided on the submission form in an effort to obtain a submission copy of the Film. The Festival reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film that does not arrive at the provided shipping destination within the deadline window selected by the Applicant. 10) In the event that the Applicant remits an updated version of the Film to the Festival after having submitted a previous version of the Film to the Festival during the same calendar year, the Festival is under no obligation to view any or all of the updated version. 11) In order to be considered for the Festival, the Applicant must fill out the submission form located at http://www.withoutabox.com or the submission form for direct submission on the www.unrealfilmfes.com website. The Festival reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film that is not submitted through one of these channels. 12) The Festival reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film with a submission form that is considered to be delinquent due to the non-payment of any or all submission fees. The Festival will attempt, but is under no obligation, to contact the Applicant using the contact information provided on the submission form in an effort to bring the payment status of the account up-to-date. 13) If, based on the rules and eligibility requirements set forth above, the Film submitted by the Applicant is eligible for consideration by the Festival, the Film will be viewed in its entirety by one or more members of our selection committee and given the same initial level of consideration as all other films submitted to the Festival. 14) Upon completion of the Festival selection process, the Festival will attempt to contact the Applicant using the contact information provided on the submission form to notify the Applicant of the Film’s acceptance status. The Festival will not be held responsible for the failure to contact the Applicant using the contact information provided on the submission form. It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to ensure that the contact information provided on the submission form is correct throughout the entirety of the submission period. 15) The Festival is under no obligation to provide comments or feedback regarding the submitted Film to the Applicant or any other representative of the submitted Film. The Festival will not be held responsible or liable for the contents of any internal comments or feedback regarding any submitted Film obtained by the Applicant or any other representative of the submitted film. 16) If accepted into the festival, applicants will be notified by Aug. 1, 2014. Applicants will then have until Sep. 1, 2014 to send two screening copies of the finished film to the Festival for screening purposes at the festival. Applicants who do not submit screening copies of their film to the Festival by Sep. 1, 2014 will be disqualified from the festival. The Festival is under no obligation to refund partially or in-full any entry fees into the festival.
