Documentary Features
CBFF is looking for the most evocative, most moving films in the genre - films that take us around the world and show us the beauty of it and the people within it.
Narrative Features
CBFF is looking to program your narrative film. Something funny, something moving, something that is wonderfully shot and tells a fully-realized, moving story.
Narrative and documentary films 45 minutes in length and under.
Mountain Kids Film brings quality, inspiring, international programming to young people and families. We believe that the medium of film has the power to inspire and educate children and empower them to get involved and make a difference in their community. Adventurous, enchanting, intellectual, artistic; we have films that will delight and inspire children, teens, and families alike – films that empower youth to engage, question, experience, and create.

Crested Butte Film Festival is an international film festival dedicated to celebrating the art of film, our connection with filmmakers, and the power of storytelling.

Our mission is to inspire and educate our audience through films and discussions that spark creativity, cultural awareness and social and environmental change.

(It's also to showcase our great little town - one of the coolest, most intimate, beautiful places around.)

Known as a destination and filmmakers festival, Crested Butte Film Festival is held in the high mountains of Colorado the last weekend of September, just as the aspens are turning - a place where beauty, friendships, and great films abound. Crested Butte Film Festival showcases the best in world cinema in what is known as "America's last great ski town.”

Crested Butte Film Festival seeks the best in narrative, documentary, short, outdoor adventure, and children's films. We have a passion for discovering great first films and a desire to nurture a filmmaker's career thereafter. It's a place to be discovered and seen. We're an intimate festival - all our venues are within walking distance in our small, picturesque town, and our events are designed to foster connection and lasting partnerships among filmmakers.

Best known as a “filmmakers festival,” Crested Butte Film Festival creates intimate, well-attended screenings, thoughtful, provocative programming and panel discussions and an inspiring weekend for our visiting filmmakers and attendees. Perhaps one of them said it best:

"Just about everything distinguishes Crested Butte Film Festival from other festivals - from the programmers' joy of cinema, to the warmth of the staff and volunteers, to the genuine enthusiasm of the local community, to its grand, majestic setting. Hands down, Crested Butte is one of the best film festivals I've ever attended. I cannot wait to come back to Crested Butte. Crested Butte Film Festival is a treasure, and should be at the very top of any filmmaker's list of festivals to attend."

- Marcelo Mitnik,
Award-winning Director, In The Clouds

Within its five years of operation, Crested Butte Film Festival has quickly established itself as a “must attend” festival and was recently named by USA Today’s Go Escape Magazine as one of the “top five fall film festivals in North America to attend.”

Dear Filmmaker,

Thanks so much for considering your film for our festival. The Crested Butte Film Festival looks forward to seeing your film and hopefully screening it in our great little town where you do not need a car, but get to walk and bike from venue to venue, meeting our enthusiastic, friendly crowds. If your film is chosen to be a part of our 2016 Festival, we are happy to provide free accommodations for you and a guest. We’ll also share with you great hospitality, parties, bike rides, the opportunity to network, and most importantly, to build relationships with other filmmakers. We are, unfortunately, unable to fly filmmakers and representatives to Crested Butte at this time, but we will make your stay here a fun, heart-felt, and rewarding experience.
