MISSION & OBJECTIVE
The South Alabama Film Festival (SoAL Film Fest) seeks to showcase and educate the community about filmmakers and their creations, while welcoming all who enjoy the medium.
In addition to feature-length and short films, SoAL Film Fest will offer seminars and workshops for adults and school children, to further its goal of educating – as well as enchanting – the growing regional film community.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Now in our fourth year, the SoAL Film Festival seeks to showcase all varieties of films by, for or about the South and its people.
With this regional focus, we look to nurture each new crop of Southern filmmakers, both to prove their home is fertile ground for their art and to spread their current and future efforts hither and yon. By actively encouraging filmmakers to attend with their work, we also strive to create an inclusive space for the cross-pollination of ideas that is so vital to the medium’s healthy growth and development.
For our audiences, we wish to hold up the mirror of art to reflect their own diverse region and community and thus empower all with the waking dream that is the collective cinematic experience. In this way, we hope to show that you are as important as anyone you see in a Hollywood movie. With each of our screenings we also try to include ancillary programming (be it Q&A’s with the filmmakers, live musical accompaniment, etc.), thereby creating an experience that cannot be replicated in the living room.
And for the world at large we want to present the location, style and subject of the South as viable options for productions of any size. We are strong believers that with the means of production increasingly democratized by further advances in technology innovation in the field no longer has an address. By illuminating screens all around the city, we hope to make Mobile, and the South, flicker with possibility.
Additionally, the SoAL Film Fest continues to offer seminars and workshops for adults and children to further its goal of educating – as well as enchanting – the growing regional film community. SoAL Film Fest is the yearly event in Southern Alabama for all who love, and create, film.
