MISSION & OBJECTIVE
The mission of the Albany Film Fest is to build community enthusiasm for the arts inside Albany, and to encourage the exchange of creative expression by independent filmmakers everywhere. AFF welcomes new and experienced filmmakers of all ages, from inside or outside our quirky and creative 1 square mile.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Answer: “The amazing variety of films, the friendly ambiance, and the free popcorn!”
Question: “What do you like best about Albany FilmFest?”

Albany FilmFest is a national juried festival of short films (and really short films) — an annual showcase for thoughtful, creative, unpredictable, original films from emerging independent filmmakers of all ages. The festival and Premier Gala take place in Albany, California, a small, quirky, and independent "1-square-mile" city located directly across the Bay from San Francisco and right next to Berkeley.

Albany FilmFest is firmly rooted in community — proudly presented by the City of Albany, California, KALB 33 Community TV, the city’s Community Media Access Committee, and a dedicated team of volunteers. We always include a special category for Albany filmmakers and films about Albany. We are equally committed to embracing filmmakers from outside our borders, and finalists from all over the United States have attended past festivals and our always fabulous, semi-glamorous Gala.

The Internet Movie Database (IMDB) recognizes Albany FilmFest and accepts winning films and filmmakers into their pages. We've received rave reviews from filmmakers, festival-goers, city, state, and school officials, and the local press. We invite you and your film to be part of this year’s festival.

Each entry that meets category requirements is reviewed by our team of programmers and seen by at least two screeners. Finalists in each category are reviewed by our panel of judges, who select the winners. Past judges have included the legendary documentary filmmaker Les Blank, and Academy-Award nominated animator GeeFwee Boedoe.

We consider all submissions that meet our criteria for entry, regardless of premiere status or date of completion. Winning films will also be screened on KALB33, Albany’s community cable television channel, and streamed on associated web outlets.

And of course, there will be popcorn!
