MISSION & OBJECTIVE
Outfest is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to "protect our past, showcase our present and nurture our future by fostering gender, sexuality and LGBTQ culture and its transformative social impact on the world."

We build bridges among audiences, filmmakers and the entertainment industry through the exhibition of high-quality gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer and transgender themed films and videos, highlighted by an annual festival, that enlighten, educate and entertain the diverse communities of Southern California and beyond.

As of 2012 Outfest has partnered with NewFest of New York City. Submissions for Outfest are automatically considered for NewFest, our partner New York City festival.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
More than 200 feature and short films, nine venues and attendance of more than 55,000 people make Outfest the largest film festival of any kind in Los Angeles. Since our founding in 1982, Outfest has screened more than 5000 international films and videos for audiences of well over half a million people. Great opportunities await filmmakers at Outfest.

Outfest is the only gay and lesbian film festival in the heart of the entertainment industry, and more industry executives attend Outfest than any other LGBT film festival.

Submissions for Outfest are automatically considered for NewFest, our partner New York City festival.

Our Outfest Forward program offers comprehensive services for emerging filmmakers to forge connections in Hollywood. These services include:

- Industry Link, a one-on-one industry meeting with an agent, manager, production company executive, entertainment lawyer or distribution company executive for every director in the festival.

- The HBO Breakfast Series, morning panels hosted by members of the Outfest Board of Directors, with topics like How to Find Distribution, How to Get Work in Television, How to Get Representation, Casting Your Film, etc.

- A DVD library at the Directors Guild of America accessible to distributors and programmers.

- Three dozen panels, parties and receptions where filmmakers meet other filmmakers as well as representatives from the industry, other festivals and international LGBT media outlets.

Outfest has the most extensive awards program of any LGBT film festival, bestowing 16 awards for film and video excellence, including the $5,000 HBO Outstanding First Narrative Feature Award.

Our superb filmmaker hospitality program, accreditation, screening tickets, party invitations, etc. ensures that your time in Los Angeles is both pleasant and productive.

Our state-of-the-art venues include the festival headquarters at the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and screenings at the vast outdoor John Anson Ford Amphitheater, the historic Orpheum movie palace and REDCAT: Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater.

Outfest receives media coverage from national outlets such as Vanity Fair, CNN, USA Today, E! Entertainment Television, Access Hollywood, Variety, Entertainment Tonight, US Weekly, The Advocate, OUT, MTV, Hollywood Reporter, Genre and the Independent Film Channel - as well as key local outlets such as the Los Angeles Times, LA Weekly, Lesbian News, Frontiers, Edge, XY Magazine, Nightlife, local network news and many others.

GENERAL RULES
Outfest is seeking films and videos that are of interest to lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, intersex and/or transgender people and/or relate to gender or sexuality issues. The entries may be narrative, documentary, experimental and animated films and videos (both features and shorts). We are also seeking Submissions and/or proposals for multi-media, performance and interactive projects for inclusion in Platinum, the experimental and new media section of the festival. A submission constitutes agreement to our Submission Terms and Conditions.

Submissions for Outfest are automatically considered for NewFest, our partner New York City festival.

a. Entry Requirements

We accept entries in the form of DVDs (Region 0 or 1) or uploaded online screeners. Each DVD entry must include two copies on DVD, which shall each be labeled with the following information: (1) title, (2) WAB tracking number, (3) running time and (4) contact information (including name, address and phone number). DVDs must be submitted in 5 1/4" by 7 1/2" plastic safe cases – the industry standard push-button hub, dark plastic cases (like commercial DVDs, not CDs). Please test consumer-burned DVDs on several makes and models of players before sending it to us. Please do not send Submissions in fiber-filled envelopes, as the dust damages DVDs and DVD players. Don't use thick stickers on the DVDs because they often get stuck in DVD players.

Do not send us any master tape. We are not responsible for any lost or damaged master tape.

Please note that the DVD copies you submit for entry will not be returned. Your entries will be retained at the UCLA Film & Television archive as part of the Outfest UCLA Legacy Project.

b. Rough Cuts and Works-in-Progress

Rough cuts and works-in-progress are eligible for entry if submitted by the above noted deadlines and if an exhibition print or tape will be available by June 1, 2014. Please label the tape or DVD "Rough Cut" and specify what is missing (i.e. temp sound, needs color correction, etc.). Please be aware that an updated version of your rough cut may not be able to be re-screened for Submission consideration.

c. Still Photos

Still photos from your work are requested with your Submissions and are required for all films and videos selected for the festival. Good stills make a difference in film placement and press coverage, particularly for shorts. Even the shortest short can get press coverage or festival prominence with a captivating still. If you email stills to Outfest at programming@outfest.org they must be in TIFF or JPEG format and 300 dpi (dots per inch).

d. Acknowledgment of Receipt of Entry

To receive acknowledgment of receipt of your entry, enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope or postcard with your Submissions.

OUTFEST MEMBERS can have the entry fee waived if you are a best boy/girl member or above. Please contact programming@outfest.org to obtain your custom waiver code.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

READ THESE SUBMISSION TERMS AND CONDITIONS CAREFULLY. SHOULD YOUR ENTRY BE ACCEPTED TO THE FESTIVAL, YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING TERMS, INCLUDING GRANTS OF RIGHT, INDEMNITY OBLIGATIONS TO US AND MANDATORY ARBITRATION OF DISPUTES. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE, DO NOT SUBMIT A WORK TO US. In exchange for the opportunity to have the work I submit ("Work") considered for exhibition at the Outfest festival ("Festival"), and for other good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which are hereby acknowledged, I understand that if my project is accepted, I will be expected to agree to: 1. License to Use the Accepted Work. I WILL irrevocably grant to Outfest, and its parents, subsidiaries and affiliates, (collectively, "Outfest") an irrevocable, perpetual, world-wide, royalty-free and non-exclusive license (with the right to sublicense and assign) to reproduce, distribute, publicly display, publicly perform, transmit, broadcast, and/or otherwise use and exploit the Work (at its option and in its sole discretion), or any portion thereof (including, without limitation, the right to use footage, stills and/or title of the Work), throughout the universe, in perpetuity, in any and all languages, formats and media, now known or hereafter developed, including but not limited to, all print, television, radio, online, Internet, digital, wireless, and electronic media, in connection with the Festival (defined below), Outfest's web sites including, without limitation, (www.outfest.org) ("Outfest Website"), and any advertising, marketing or promotion thereof and for archival and scholarly purposes (including without limitation, inclusion in the UCLA/Outfest archives). The granted rights will include the right to make derivative works for purposes of (1) advertising, marketing and promotional materials; (2) restoration and archival purposes; and (3) complying with technical, format and similar requirements (e.g., for online). "Festival" means any media festivals and similar exhibitions under the auspices of Outfest. I agree that Outfest is not obligated to use the Work, or any portion thereof, or any of the rights granted to Outfest hereunder. If accepted to the Festival, I hereby irrevocably authorize Outfest to use my name, likeness and biographical information, and I further represent and warrant that I have the authority to provide Outfest with, and hereby grant the right to use the name, likeness and biographical information for the cast, director(s) and producer(s) of the Work in connection with the exhibition of my film and will provide Outfest their current contact information upon Outfest's request. If accepted to the Festival, I hereby agree to waive any right that I may have to inspect or approve Outfest's use of the Work in connection with the Festival, the Outfest Website and/or the advertising, promotion and/or marketing thereof. I further waive and relinquish any right that I have or may hereafter have in any jurisdiction, to so called "moral rights" or rights of "droit moral" with respect to results and proceeds of the Work and agree, represent and warrant that Outfest may combine, alter or modify such Work (at its option and in its sole discretion) without the consent of any third party. 2. Archival of the Work. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, I hereby irrevocably agree that the submission copy may be retained at the UCLA Film & Television archive as part of the Outfest UCLA Legacy Project. 3. Representations and Warranties. I hereby represent, warrant and covenant to Outfest that (i) I have read and agree to the Outfest Festival Submissions and Participation Rules and these Submission Terms and Conditions, (ii) have the full and legal power and authority to accept these Submission Terms and Conditions and to later grant the rights outlined herein; (iii) no other consents, authorizations or payments are necessary to permit Outfest full use and enjoyment of the rights granted herein, should my film be accepted; (iv) I will undertake and perform all of my obligations pursuant to these Submission Terms and Conditions in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local rules, laws and regulations; (v) Outfest's use of the Work, and the exercise of the granted rights, shall not infringe upon or violate the copyrights, trademarks, tradenames, rights of privacy or publicity or any other personal or proprietary rights of any person or entity, nor constitute defamation nor otherwise result in any third party liability to Outfest or its successors, assigns or licensees; and (vi) I have paid and will continue to pay in full all licenses, clearance fees, and any other obligations of any kind necessary for Outfest's full exercise of the granted rights. 4. Indemnities. I hereby agree to indemnify, hold harmless and defend Outfest and its affiliates, subsidiaries, officers, directors, representatives, successors, assigns, employees, distributors and licensees, and any other partner controlling, controlled by or under common control with such other party (collectively, the “Indemnified Person”) from and against, and the Indemnified Person shall have no liability to you, your representatives or agents, for any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages and expenses, including without limitation and as incurred, reimbursement of all reasonable costs of preparing, pursuing or defending any such claim or action, including fees and expenses of counsel of the Indemnified Person (collectively, "Losses") whether arising out of pending or threatened litigation, or other action or proceeding, directly or indirectly related to or arising out of, or in connection to any breach or alleged breach by you of any covenants, agreements, representations and warranties made by you in these Submission Terms and Conditions or otherwise in connection with the exercise of the granted rights hereunder. 5. General Legal. These Submission Terms and Conditions contain the full and complete understanding between me and Outfest (each a "Party," and collectively, "Parties") and supersede all prior and contemporaneous agreements and understandings, whether oral or written. These Submission Terms and Conditions may not be modified or amended except in a writing signed by the Parties (the Executive Director of Outfest is the only authorized signer of any amendments or modifications). These Submission Terms and Conditions will not be construed as creating a joint venture, partnership, agency or employment relationship between the Parties hereto nor will either Party have the right, power or authority to create any obligation or duty, express or implied, on behalf of the other. Any terms or provisions of these Submission Terms and Conditions which shall prove to be invalid, void or illegal shall in no way affect, impair or invalidate any other term or provision herein and such remaining terms and provisions shall remain in full force and effect. 6. Additional Acts. If accepted, I will execute any documents (after being afforded a reasonable opportunity to review and/or confirm same) and do any other acts as may be reasonably required by Outfest or its assignees or licensees to further evidence or effectuate Outfest’s rights as set forth in these Submission Terms and Conditions. 7. Miscellaneous. These Submission Terms and Conditions will be governed by the internal laws of the State of California applicable to agreements entered into and to be performed entirely in said State (without reference to its conflict of laws provisions), and I irrevocably consent to the jurisdiction and venue of the courts located in Los Angeles, California. The parties agree that all disputes related to these Submission Terms and Conditions will be exclusively resolved by binding arbitration pursuant to the American Arbitration Association’s Commercial Dispute Rules as of the Effective Date before a single arbitrator who is a lawyer or retired judge experienced in intellectual property law, which arbitration will be held in Los Angeles, California. The arbitrator will issue a written decision and will not have the authority to award punitive damages. The parties expressly incorporate into these Submission Terms and Conditions the terms of California Code of Civil Procedure Sections 1283 and 1283.05 pertaining to pre-hearing discovery. The substantially prevailing party in any action to enforce or interpret these Submission Terms and Conditions will be entitled to recover its costs and expenses (including attorneys’ fees and costs) from the substantially losing party. The arbitration award may be enforced by any court with applicable jurisdiction. If any provision of these Submission Terms and Conditions is for any reason declared by a court or arbitrator of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal, unenforceable, inoperative or otherwise ineffective, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that these Submission Terms and Conditions will otherwise remain in full force and effect and enforceable. These Submission Terms and Conditions contain the entire agreement between the parties relating to the matters discussed herein and will supersede any and all such other understandings, representations and agreements whether written or oral. Any amendments hereto will be in writing signed by the parties. Section headings are for reference purposes only. No provision of these Submission Terms and Conditions will be construed against the drafting party. These Submission Terms and Conditions may be signed in one or more counterparts that will together constitute the whole and copies may be used for all purposes as an original. 8. Remedies. I acknowledge that upon acceptance of my film, the execution of these Submission Terms and Conditions by me may constitute a material inducement to Outfest, and that, in doing so, Outfest is materially relying upon the provisions hereof. I confirm that the Work and Festival are of a special, unique, unusual, extraordinary, intellectual or artistic nature which gives them a peculiar value, the loss of which cannot reasonably or adequately be compensated by monetary damages alone, so that in the event of any alleged breach hereof, Outfest will be entitled to seek all available equitable relief, including, without limitation, an injunction (without obligation to post any bond or surety or establish likelihood of harm). I agree, however, that any remedies I may have against Outfest in connection with the Work and/or the Festival will be limited to the right to recover damages, if any, in an action at law, and I hereby irrevocably waive any right or remedy in equity, including any right to (a) terminate these Submission Terms and Conditions; (b) rescind or terminate Outfest’s right, title and interest in and to the Work and/or the Festival; or (c) enjoin, restrain or otherwise impair in any manner the production, distribution, advertising or exploitation of the Work and/or the Festival. By selecting “I agree” and clicking "submit" below, I am accepting these Submission Terms and Conditions in their entirety. I AGREE TO THE SUBMISSION TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
