International Competition for the First Feature Films of Directors
International Competition for the First Feature Films of Directors is for the best of debut feature films of directors from around the world produced after November 01, 2012. This section aims at discovering and honoring new talent in the field of direction and providing them networking possibilities.

Accepts: First feature length fiction films of a director.
World Cinema
World Cinema focuses on screening the best films from all over the world produced after November 01, 2012. This section is meant to be a Festival of Festival films, the award winning and critically acclaimed films screened in other international film festivals and commercially successful, technically superior films. This section is an indicator of the latest trends in film making around the globe.

Accepted: Feature length fiction films.
India Gold 2013
India Gold 2013 section presents the best crop of Indian fiction-feature films from all the Indian languages produced after November 01, 2012. This is competitive section meant to be a show window for the best Indian films targeting the foreign delegates, Festival directors, sales agents and co-producers.
New Faces in Indian Cinema
New Faces in Indian Cinema is a non-competitive section which will screen First and Second Feature Films of the Indian directors and aims to provide a platform to young emerging Indian filmmakers.
Harmony Celebrate Age
Harmony Celebrate Age aims to encourage filmmakers to look beyond the stereotypes of old age and to tread where few have gone before - to look at the positive side of ageing. The competition section will showcase ad-films, short fiction films, documentaries and feature length films on the concerns, spice, fun and adventure of growing older.
Dimensions Mumbai
Dimensions Mumbai was introduced to mark the 10th Anniversary of MAMI, the idea was to provide a platform to young students and professionals to showcase their talent. Short films of less than five minutes duration made on any format depicting any aspect of life in Mumbai can participate in the competition.

The competition is only for residents of Mumbai, aged 25 or less.

MISSION & OBJECTIVE
The MAMI Board of Trustees clarified in their Mission Statement in 1997, “We feel it is the need of the hour to disseminate and inculcate good cinema among Indian audiences. The only way to achieve this is to celebrate cinema by hosting an international film festival in Mumbai (birth place of Indian Cinema), India 's film and entertainment capital. Mumbai Academy of Moving Image is committed to start Mumbai's first independent international film festival organized by practicing film makers.” The Festival proudly celebrates its 15th Edition this year.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Mumbai Film Festival programme is divided into eight sections: International Competition for the First Feature Films of Directors, World Cinema, India Gold 2013, Dimensions Mumbai, Celebrate Age, Retrospectives, Above the Cut and New Faces in Indian Cinema.

International Competition for the First Feature Films of Directors is for the best of debut feature films of directors from around the world produced within one calendar year before the festival dates. This section aims at discovering and honoring new talents in the field of direction and providing them networking possibilities.

World Cinema focuses on screening the best films from all over the world produced within one calendar year before the festival dates. This section is meant to be a Festival of Festival films, the award winning and critically acclaimed films screened in other international film festivals and commercially successful, technically superior films. This section is an indicator of the latest trends in film making around the globe.

India Gold 2013 is a competition section, presents the best crop of fiction-feature films made in one calendar year before the festival dates. This section is meant to be a show window for the best Indian films targeting the foreign delegates, Festival directors, sales agents and co-producers. The Festival plans to promote this section in a big way and help the film makers network with target group.

Harmony Silver Awards will showcase short fiction films, documentaries and feature length films on the concerns, spice, fun and adventure of growing older.

Dimensions Mumbai is to tease, target and provide a forum to the young creative minds in the city of Mumbai to come up with the best film on any aspect of this metropolis in any format of their choice. Only students and young media professionals under 25 years of age can submit films for this competition section.

The Retrospectives section presents the treasures from the past. It is nostalgia for the veterans to revisit these films and a process of learning and sheer pleasure of watching these masterpieces for the youngsters.

Above The Cut is a non-competitive section which presents the First Feature Films of Directors which could not be accommodated in the International Competition for the First Films of Directors.

New Faces in Indian Cinema is a non-competitive section which will screen First and Second Feature Films of the Indian directors and aims to provide a platform to young emerging Indian filmmakers.

The Mumbai Film Festival Programme aims to present the best of the crop in all its sections.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The 15th MUMBAI FILM FESTIVAL is organized by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI), a not-for-profit trust founded by Indian film industry personalities. Renowned Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal is the Chairman of MAMI. The Official Programme comprises: a) International Competition for the First Feature Films of Directors b) Above the Cut c) World Cinema d) India Gold 2013 e) New Faces in Indian Cinema f) The Real Reel g) Dimensions Mumbai h) Harmony - Celebrate Age i) Retrospectives / Homages Applicants may choose to which section(s) they wish to offer their film. The film / filmmaker must qualify as per the section(s) to which they are applying for. Regulations for Participation There are distinct regulations covering participation in each section of the Festival. Please see the respective section’s regulations before applying. Submission Submission of a film must be made on the official Festival entry form, duly completed and sent with a preview screener (DVD PAL - all region), synopsis and the complete cast and credits. This deadline must be strictly observed. Road, Andheri (W), Mumbai - 400 053, INDIA Tel. : +91-4016 8223 / 8221, Fax : 4016 8222 Email : info@mumbaifilmfest.com, mumbaifilmfest@gmail.com The envelope / package of DVDs for selection must be marked clearly with the following : For 15th Mumbai Film Festival SELECTION PURPOSE / CULTURAL PURPOSE ONLY - Not for commercial use. The courier invoice should mention “No Commercial Value - Value for Customs Purposes US$ Two only”. The cost of the courier charges for the preview material is to be borne by the applicant. Notice of Dispatch At the same time, the sender should inform the Festival by fax or e-mail of the title of the film, the date and means of shipment, and the AWB number. Entry Fee The Festival does not charge any entry fee. Selection For selection screening, films must be submitted in their original language. Films in English may be submitted without subtitles, but films in other language should be subtitled in English. Obligations on Selection Films selected for 15th Mumbai Film Festival may not be withdrawn from the Festival programme after its publication. Films should not have been screened in India i.e. released commercially in theatres, in video or telecast or internet or participated in any film festival in India. Preference will be given to World Premiers, International Premiers, Asian Premiers and Indian Premiers, in that order. During the Festival itself film selected in 15th Mumbai Film Festival may not be screened outside the Festival venues in India before its official presentation. Applying in 60th National Film Awards, 2012 does not preclude Indian film from applying in 15th Mumbai Film Festival. Excerpts for Television For promotion of the films on Television, the applicant should provide a maximum 3 minute EPK in Digibeta / DVD format. This will be returned along with the print of the film upon explicit demand by the applicant at his / her cost. Official Logo and Promotion For the films selected, the Festival expects the official Festival logo to be included in all promotion and publicity material in a prominent place. The Festival provides suitable logos for each programme section. For requests please send an email to publicity@mumbaifilmfest.com. To book advertising space within the Festival areas producers and distributors should please contact the Festival’s advertising partners at publicity@mumbaifilmfest.com. Press Service and Press Conferences Producers and distributors are required to provide the Festival press office with an appropriate supply of press brochures, photos and video excerpts. The Festival professionally records all press conferences in BETA SP format. The recordings are available in original version. For a license fee, producers and distributors can purchase the recordings for their Electronic Press Kits or DVDs. More information can be found at press@mumbaifilmfest.com. Programming The programming of the films selected is entirely at the discretion of the Festival Management whose decision is irrevocable. Each film may be screened up to a maximum of four times during the Festival in Mumbai. Only the invited guests and registered delegates, including press and industry delegates are admitted entry for the screenings. The Festival does not charge entry fee for attending the screenings. Screening Format Films selected in Mumbai Film Festival will be screened in 35mm print or DCP projection. In some cases, the festival may accept films in HDCam or Digibeta PAL formats. Return of Film Prints and Screeners The screening material provided to the Festival i.e. film prints / hard disks / beta tapes will be returned by the Festival or its shipping agent according to the print owner's instructions. Festival pays one way freight for this screening material, either for receiving the print or for its return as per owner’s direction. Any exception to this must be agreed upon in advance by the Festival with the producer / sales agent. DVD screeners sent for selection will only be returned upon explicit demand and at the applicant’s expense. Requests can be submitted after Festival dates and until six months after the Festival. Right of Participation Participation in the Festival implies adherence to the regulations as here set out. It is the responsibility of producers, distributors, or other organizations submitting a film to ensure that they are legitimately entitled to enter a film in the Festival. The Festival Director has the right to settle all cases unforeseen in the regulations of participation, as well as to permit exceptions from the regulations in special, well-founded cases. Audience Choice Award The audience will vote to select the most popular film of the festival which will carry a cash award of Rs. 10,00,000/- (approximately US$ 20,000) and Silver Gateway trophy. The Cash award will be shared between director, producer and the sales agent / distribution company who enters the film in the festival and makes available the print for screening, in the ratio 45%, 45% & 10% respectively. Indian Tax laws will apply for transfer of cash awards. This award is not specific to any particular section in the Festival and all the films participating in the Festival, excepting Dimensions Mumbai section and Retrospectives / Homage section would be eligible for voting. In case a film from India Gold 2013 competition or New Faces of Indian Cinema wins this award the cash award will be shared euqally between the director(s) & the producer(s) of the film i.e. Rs. 5,00,000 to the director(s) and Rs. 5,00,000 to the producer(s). Mumbai Young Critics’ Award Thirty Two media students from various Mumbai Colleges would be selected to watch the films in the Festival. Their critiques will be published in the daily bulletin. These young critics will vote the film of their choice from among the films selected in the International Competition section and Above The Cut Section, which would be awarded Mumbai Young Critics’ Award (Silver Gateway trophy). Responsibility of the Festival In case of damage to or loss of a print sent for screening in the festival, the Festival is only responsible for the costs involved in either restoration / repair of the damaged print or making a new print of damaged reel according to the current laboratory rates for ordering a standard print. This responsibility of Festival for damage to or loss of print is applicable (i) while the print is in Festival’s custody, and / or (ii) in the shipping / transit mode through Festival’s shipping agent / courier.
