ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
We want to be the first to exhibit your film. Whether it's narrative, documentary, animation, or experimental, great work has a place at this film festival. We've been showcasing original works like yours for longer than any other student-run film festival in North Carolina. The festival has separate student, independent, and North Carolina categories, as well as a script competition.

GENERAL RULES
The Carolina Film & Video Festival (CFVF) invites student and independent filmmakers to submit their film or video works. We accept films or videos completed after May 2009. We do NOT accept works in progress. Film or video works must be submitted on DVD or .MOV format (standard play mode; in conformance with NTSC specifications). We will NOT return submissions.

WHO CAN ENTER:
Any filmmaker can submit a film for screening at CFVF. A filmmaker is anyone who exercised direct, significant creative control over the final film or video.

CATEGORIES OF ENTRY:
We offer TWO, separate categories of screenings: COMPETITIVE SCREENINGS (works juried and eligible for awards) and SPECIAL SCREENINGS (works shown out of competition and not eligible for awards).

COMPETITIVE SCREENINGS are for student and independent film or video works ONLY. A "student work" is a film or video that is made or the majority of work completed while the filmmaker was a student. An "independent work" is a film or video that is made or the majority of work completed while the filmmaker was not a student AND neither (a) made under contract for a major studio or with major studio funding, distribution, or marketing; (b) shown/ under contract to be shown at commercial theaters or on network or cable television.

SPECIAL SCREENINGS are for films or videos that do not fit within the Competitive Screening category. These include films or videos: (a) made under contract for a major studio or with major studio funding, distribution, or marketing; (b) films shown/ under contract to be shown at commercial theaters or on network or cable television; (c) films made, distributed, funded, or produced in whole or in part by UNCG faculty (d) films made by one of the jurors of the festival.
