Feature
Carlsbad Film Festival will showcase a variety of feature films running 40 minutes or longer. Films entered in this category can be any genre.
Documentary
Typically a piece of non-fiction that captures real life events on film as a work of art. Documentaries can range extensively in topics including art and culture, entertainment, environment and human rights, and range to social, political, economic, and historic, just to name a few.
Narrative Short
Our Narrative Short Films category can be any genre and must be UNDER 40 minutes in length.
Action Sports
The Action Sports category highlights prominent figures in action sport culture including filmmakers, athletes, industry legends and originators, and artists that have captured sports such as surfing, skateboarding, motocross, snowboarding, and many more.
Animation
The Animation category showcases pieces of animated work of any genre and features both new and veteran filmmakers.
Youth
Carlsbad Film Festival supports and spotlights the development and progression of our youth through the medium and art of film. Open only to filmmakers enrolled in grades K-12. These films can run in length from 1 to 50 minutes maximum.
Music Video
We love music. We love film. Carlsbad Film Festival promotes the collision of these relatable art-forms. All music genres are accepted. Films in this category are 10 minutes maximum.
Local
Locals, it is your time to shine! The Local Film category accepts any film of any length of time that was filmed in or made by a resident of San Diego County.
Family
The Carlsbad Film Festival supports family community involvement. This category celebrates films of all genres. Films submitted must be suitable for all audiences of all ages.

MISSION & OBJECTIVE
The goal of the Carlsbad Film Festival is to promote and highlight films of the highest quality in both production and substance. We believe in the art of film and its ability to reach people through its unique connection to the audience.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Set in what many consider to be the jewel of Northern San Diego, the Carlsbad Film Festival seeks to join the emerging art scene in and around the world-renowned Carlsbad Village. Films will be screened at locations throughout the city, with workshops, panels, premiere parties, and an awards gala, bringing North County its first prestigious cinematic festival experience. Filmgoers will also have the opportunity to take part in intimate Q&A sessions with producers, directors, actors, screenwriters, and cinematographers.

The Carlsbad Film Festival supports the inception and progression of visionary and imaginative cinematic works from both developing and veteran filmmakers. Integrating the local community and educational institutions, the Festival seeks to stimulate an interest in the study and appreciation of film and encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to participate.




GENERAL RULES
When we receive your submission, WE WILL CONTACT YOU VIA EMAIL. If you did not receive an email, we did not receive your submission.

1. Film Submissions and Eligibility:
Acceptable submissions for the festival are either feature length films (over 40 minutes) or short films (under 40 minutes) in English or in the original language with English subtitles. All foreign language films without subtitles will not be accepted. All films must be submitted in DVD or Blu-Ray form for festival exhibition. No other forms of delivery will be accepted. All films submitted must be complete upon submission. The only films acceptable for selection are those completed in 2011 and 2012. Filmmakers may enter as many films as they choose.

Films submitted to CFF must not be screened in the U.S.A. on television, be shown in theaters, or be available to consumers in stores in the U.S. or online before September 16, 2012.

Shipping and Handling: All films submitted must be shipped prepaid by the entrant. All items sent to CFF, including the film itself and any press or application materials will NOT be returned to the entrant.

2. Entry Deadlines and Fees
EARLY DEADLINE – FEB. 15, 2012
REGULAR DEADLINE – APRIL 15, 2012
LATE DEADLINE – JUNE 15, 2012
WAB EXTENDED DEADLINE – JUNE 30, 2012

All films must be shipped prepaid, with the contents padded or protected, and submitted to the CFF office postmarked no later than the deadline intended.

Entry fees are payable by credit card, check, or money order and must be made out to Carlsbad Film Festival and are nonrefundable. Fees for foreign entries should be paid by credit card, in traveler’s checks in U.S. dollars.

3. Liability and Responsibility
DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL PRINTS OR DVD’S. We truly value the materials entrusted to us, however we are not responsible for lost or damaged items. If there is a change in address or phone number, please keep us apprised.

4. Competition
All films will be critiqued, nominated, and voted upon based on pre-determined criterion by a panel of judges comprised of unbiased filmmakers, industry experts, and film enthusiasts. To see the full list of competitive categories and respective awards, visit the awards page of our listing.

5. Advertising
Entrant of any film submitted to CFF permits any and all promotional use applicable to this festival. All matters associated with screenings of the film, including the numbers, dates and times, are subject to change by CFF at any time.

For all selected films, a Press Kit (either electronic or hard copy) must be sent to the CFF office including, but not limited to, a bio and filmography of the director, production notes, full cast and crew credits, photos or posters associated with the film, etc.

6. Selection
Films selected for the CFF will be notified via email no later than August 15, 2012. Once accepted, the entrant will be asked to reply with their participation response. Please do not call the festival office with submission inquiries.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

By signing this document, I acknowledge and agree that I am authorized to submit this film and its related materials to the Carlsbad Film Festival. I confirm that the filmmaker has attained the required rights to all music used in the film and that all other necessary rights have been acquired prior to submission. I verify that the film submitted was completed after January 1, 2011. The film will premiere at CFF and will not be commercially available nor will it air via any media delivery system in the U.S. prior to September 16, 2012. I take full responsibility and therefore hold CFF harmless for any claims, damages or losses, liabilities, and/or expenses (including but not limited to court costs or attorney’s fees) incurred for any reason involving trademarks, credits, copyrights, promotion, viewing, and/or loss of or damage of the films entered. If the film is selected by the CFF, I authorize the use of the film and its materials for public presentation during the Carlsbad Film Festival, September 13 – 16, 2012. The CFF is a competition that showcases a multitude of film categories and genres. The CFF Board has the right to establish eligibility of any and all films submitted. I understand that CFF has the right to use an excerpt from any film submission that is accepted for presentation at CFF for promotional usage. I accept all terms defined in this entry form and authorize that I am submitting the film for screening.
