ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Year Two of the St Albans International Film Festival.

See us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/StAlbansFilmFestival

St Albans is an historic Roman city surrounded by beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, with many great venues in which to hold screenings.

St Albans is in close proximity to many thriving towns & cities including London & the University town of Hatfield (where students learn professional filmmaking)

St Albans is one of the most popular commuter belt cities, being only 20mins by train to Kings Cross in the heart of London and just off the M25 motorway.

A fun fact is that on the United Kingdom version of the Monopoly Board St Albans is the 'Mayfair' of Britain and it certainly is a prestigious and beautiful place to visit. There are many nationalities residing in St Albans. The city has a thriving Italian Community and of course important Roman connections.

There is a great deal of filmmaking history associated with St Albans including the great Stanley Kubrick. One of the first great pioneers of cinema Arthur Melbourne-Cooper http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Melbourne-Cooper and Director Mike Newell.

In its first year we received around 400 entries from 30 countries around the world and awarded £4000 worth of prizes to filmmakers.

Stanley Kubrick's wife Christiane officially opened our first festival and it was closed by Jan Harlan, Kubricks brother in law.

We had wonderful press coverage for our first event including Number One read story on the BBC news website, ITV news, The Independent Newspaper and many other newspapers and websites.

Filmmakers will showcase their talent and receive recognition in the form of ‘festival selection’ and the opportunity to win awards. Film-lovers will have a chance to see some of the most unique and fantastic films from around the globe and to celebrate the area and its filmmakers. There will be talks & workshops for budding filmmakers.. as well as a chance to enjoy the festival parties and events.

One visiting filmmaker said we had "Exactly the right mix of professionalism and fun".

At St Albans Film Festival our team of enthusiastic volunteers make you feel welcome. We hope to see you there in 2014.
