Through it's unique programme, the festival discovers and champions those pioneering in the fields of composing, sound design and sound editing and provides a platform for the future stars of tomorrow to showcase their talents.

The 'Original score not produced for picture' category offers composers with music not created for or used in finished films, the chance to present their cues to both the jury of industry experts and the festival audience.

Of the scores submitted, 15 tracks are chosen for consideration and loaded into music pods situated at cinemas and venues throughout the duration of the festival where visiting audiences are given the opportunity to listen and select their favorite online. Scores will also be played in the PA foyer systems of all venues during the duration of the festival and hosted on the festival website. The most popular 5 are selected based on the online vote for presentation to the jury before a winner is selected for the closing ceremony.

Entries should be submitted as youtube or vimeo links with composer name and track name clearly listed in the title. Cues submitted should be at least one minute in duration and no longer than five minutes.

We look forward to listening to your work.

MISSION & OBJECTIVE

The world is full of NOISE, loud, raw and unrelenting in our ears. Escaping it is impossible and in time it fades to the background of our lives, HOWEVER…

… in the temple of cinema, the crude ore of NOISE is crafted by unsung masters into sculpted waves designed to wash sensually upon our ears with majesty and wonderment. Rich in resonance, subtle in sentiment and lasting in legacy, this mesmerising process has seen NOISE… become SOUND.

SHORT SOUNDS is the world’s first dedicated celebration of cinematic SOUND and MUSIC. An event to champion the audio wizards that fill our heads with SOUNDS that make our hearts race and SCORES that storm our souls. This October, join us in central Bournemouth for a programme of films richly authentic in their use of sound and music and a whole host of uniquely engaging experiential installations designed to challenge our relationship with the sounds of cinema.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

SHORT SOUNDS FILM FESTIVAL is the world’s first film festival dedicated entirely to the cinema’s crafts of sound and music.

We at SHORT SOUNDS FILM FESTIVAL love the unsung heroes. And who else is a better candidate for such a title than film and video game composers and sound designers? Their work is integral to the pace, setting, tone and general atmosphere to what we see on screen and deserves greater recognition.

We screen a selection of short documentaries, dramas, animations and music videos alongside commercial work and video game titles which push the boundaries of sound design and music. We want to open up conversations about short films and inspire the next generation of movie makers.

LATEST NEWS: Academy Award winner GLENN FREEMANTLE and Emmy nominee RUPERT GREGSON-WILLIAMS join the festival jury to select the best short films with original music and sound design.
