California Animated Shorts
Animation from the professional and independent circuit in California.
National and International Animation
Animated films from the USA and beyond.

To celebrate the ever-emerging influence of animation in today's entertainment, from the roots of the medium to the advanced technologies available to both studios and independents alike.

Join us for a weekend celebrating the diversity of styles in the ever-emerging field of Animation. Attendees will experience a selection of art and animated works from around the globe at the historic Tower Theatre in old Roseville, culled from independent artists and major motion picture companies.

Patrons may explore the evolution of animation methods through workshops for imaginative minds of all ages, with hands-on opportunities to build flip cartoons and zoetrope’s, with short demonstrations on CGI and 3D rendering presented by professionals at the Blue Line Arts Gallery adjacent to the Tower. The Tower will also provide opportunities for exhibition of artwork and vendor sales of related materials in its spacious lobby.

There will be a panel discussion on Saturday, September 28, with an assembly of industry professionals currently working in larger markets of film, television and print.

The theatre is situated between several local eateries and coffee shops within walking distance, and is only a five minute drive from the Westfield Galleria Mall and the Fountains at Roseville, with over 40 retailers and restaurants to choose from.

Invitees from out-of-area will stay at the newly built Hampton Inn Suites, with a full continental breakfast provided. Attendees also have the option to stay here at the "Stand Out Talent" discounted group rate.

Roseville is a growing city, and critical to its expansion as a cosmopolitan arts hub is the introduction of emerging and relevant arts and entertainment from larger, established industries. We want to inspire attendees of all ages to experience the arts at personal levels rather than merely as audience members. Whether returning to the animation breakthroughs of the early 1900’s or exploring the offerings of current award-winning masterpieces, including premieres of original works from local and national artists, our goal is to provide Roseville with a unique adventure through the imaginations of artists in order to revitalize the creative spirit within every patron.

Your participation is encouraged. For opportunities to sponsor, donate, partner or participate in Roseville’s First Festival of Animation, or for related questions, please contact Jason Bortz, Media Director of Stand Out Talent, a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to education in and production of live and media arts. All Sponsors/Donors will receive receipts for tax purposes in addition to appearing in printed marketing materials.

General Rules
Entry Regulations

For selection and programming consideration, the festival accepts DVD and Blu-Ray submissions.

For submission purposes, festival programmers will consider films submitted before completion (i.e., rough cuts, Avid outputs, temporary sound mixes, etc.), provided that the film is completed and in the possession of the Festival by Sept. 15, 2013.

More than one film or video may be submitted. Each film or video must be accompanied by a separate submission form and entry fee.

Competition Categories:

Submitted films and videos will be selected and judged in three categories:

California Short Films: Any California-based film totaling under 40 minutes in length.

National and International Animation: Any film up to 90 minutes in length.

Selected Films

Participants must ensure that they have the right to participate in the Festival with regard to third persons connected to the production of selected films or videos. The Festival rarely pays (and never charges) screening fees and it is assumed that any film submitted without specific reference to a requested screening fee in the cover letter is both available to be screened, with no legal restrictions, and without expectation of a fee being paid.

The final print of each invited film or video must arrive at the Roseville Animation Festival before September 15th, 2013 or have other arrangements agreed upon by the festival directors.

The Festival reserves the right to refuse or cancel the projection of any print deemed of insufficient quality.

Press & Publicity

If your film or video is selected to screen at the Festival, you will be asked to provide: director's bio and filmography/videography, b&w and/or color stills from the film, and press materials.

Judging & Awards

Jury Awards will be presented to the best film or video in each category. Juries will be comprised of industry professionals according to availability. Trophies will be presented to winning participants in each category.

Shipping The cost of shipping a submission to the Festival must be paid by the entrant. Please do not send submissions in fiber-filled envelopes, as their residue ruins screening equipment. To obtain notification of receipt, please include a self-addressed, stamped postcard. Submissions will not be returned unless otherwise requested and pre-paid by the entrant with a self-addressed stamped envelope suitable for return. All shipping charges are the responsibility of the entrant. Reproduction Agreement Unless otherwise requested, film and video submissions selected for screening grant the Roseville Animation Festival rights to use moving image excerpts, production stills, and information from the film or video for promotional purposes. Liability Every precaution will be exercised in handling DVDs and Blu Ray media. However, should a print be lost or damaged, the Festival will accept responsibility for the period of time that the print is in the possession of the Roseville Animation Festival, and will reimburse the value of the video or film (or part thereof) only. Do not send original prints or tapes. Acceptance of Rules Participation in the Festival implies acceptance of all Festival rules and regulations. Where to Send Submissions Please mail all submissions, along with completed submission form and enclosed check or money order, to: Roseville Animation Festival 2007 Sally Way Roseville, CA 95661 Participation in the Festival implies acceptance of all Festival rules and regulations.
