MISSION & OBJECTIVE

The Woods Hole Film Festival is a showcase of independent film spotlighting the work of emerging filmmakers. We emphasize cinematography in our selection process. We also promote the work of WHFF alumni and New England Filmmakers both during and after the Festival. In addition to screening over 130 works over the 8 day Festival, we offer hands-on workshops and master classes geared toward both veteran and first-time filmmakers. Our year round screening series offers a second screening opportunity for Festival filmmakers. All categories are competitive. Some categories are juried. Audience awards given in all categories.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Now presenting our 27th edition, The Woods Hole Film Festival is the oldest independent film festival on Cape Cod and the Islands and is one of the best in New England. Named by MOVIEMAKER MAGAZINE as one of the 25 Coolest Festivals in the world and one of the 25 Festivals worth the submission fee, the Festival provides a venue for up and coming filmmakers to screen their work before sophisticated and appreciative audiences. Many of our past entrants return with subsequent work and are achieving success within the film world. We are a launching pad for filmmakers and create a festival atmosphere that is friendly and supportive and builds on the summer fun of Cape Cod at peak season. While we accept many submissions from out of the region, our selection process takes into account your ability to attend the festival and to participate fully in the panel discussions and other festival and filmmaker events.

Yankee Magazine designated the Festival as one of the top 10 events in Massachusetts for Summer 2017. With more than 80% of filmmakers in attendance, each summer offers the Festival filmmakers a chance to show their work before audience who come to this intimate seaside community from around the world to study science, vacation and support independent film. We have a very high ration of returning filmmakers each year, which helps to create a wonderful atmosphere for both new filmmakers and alumni.
