Visual Music
This category calls for submissions of visual music that are designed to accompany live classical music performance.

Category finalists will be projected during live performance by a Mankato Symphony Orchestra ensemble during the festival.

The first place prize for the Visual Music category is $1,000. Additionally, all submissions will be considered for inclusion in the Ion Concert Media Content Library, which will expose your work to music conductors and audiences from all over the world.

Submission Details

The main criteria for submission is that the visual music pieces accompany a classical music score in its complete and unedited form. Successful submissions will:

1) achieve an artistic balance between the film and the music performance
2) complement the rhythmic flow of the music, and
3) demonstrate mastery of the visual media.

The musical scores cannot be distorted, modified, cut, or altered in any way as these changes would make it impossible for musicians to replicate the soundtrack. If your submission is chosen as a finalist but does not use the soundtrack in its complete and unedited form, you will be asked to resubmit according to these specifications.

Examples of music selections that work well for our purposes include Marriage of Figaro Overture by Mozart, October by Eric Whitacre, Pavane by Gabriel Fauré, Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saëns, and In the Hall of the Mountain King by Grieg.

MISSION & OBJECTIVE

The mission of the festival is to inspire individuals from different countries and cultures to communicate with each other through the universal medium of visual storytelling.
