MISSION & OBJECTIVE
The Familius Online Film Festival is an online gathering place for films that promote, celebrate, and interpret family life. Our mission is to help families be happy.
We believe that the family is the central unit of society and that film is a marvelous and unique art form to help explore the themes we find in family. The themes Familius currently explores are Marriage, Parenting, Family Fun, Comedy, and Inspirational. We wish to explore all that happens within a family.
At Familius, we believe that successful marriages and families are established and maintained on some very simple principles: education, respect, forgiveness, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. Times and trends may change, but we don't think these principles do. Perhaps you’ve taken a look at society and wondered, “Does anyone care about family anymore?” At Familius, we do.
Whether you are married, divorced, raising children, empty nesters, looking for family fun ideas, struggling with school, frustrated with your teenager (or parent), managing your personal finances or just trying to be healthier, the Familius Family International Film Festival is for you. It's an inspiring labor of love, and we hope you'll join us in our efforts to help families be happy!
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Familius started as a book publisher in March 2012 by Christopher and Michele Robbins. Christopher has worked in publishing for over twenty years and has held many positions, including CEO of Gibbs Smith. In late 2012, Christopher teamed up with Matthew Schramer, an independent filmmaker to help families be happy through the medium of film and video. Together they formed the Familius Family International Film Festival.
The Familius Online Film Festival is a rolling online film festival that awards cash prizes to the best films each year. The festival showcases short films, under 30 minutes, that explore what it means to be in a family. Films are submitted from professional and amateur filmmakers across the world and then reviewed by Familius to ensure the films fulfill our mission. Familius seeks films that celebrate family life and explore themes in family including: birth, marriage, adolescence, courtship, vacations, work, family fun, food, traditions, hardship and personal tragedy. We are looking for artistic, creative, and original perspective short films from different cultures. We want a global community to be able to view the family experience. Ultimately we want to see and hear how different families live.
As part of the Familius community, each film is entered into the Familius Family International Film Festival where a Grand Jury Award of $1,000 and an Audience Award of $500 are awarded annually for the two best films that fulfill the Familius mission. The Grand Jury Award Winner is chosen by a panel of judges while the Audience Award is selected by audience votes and most "Likes." The top ten finalists are also chosen by total audience "likes."
We hope that you will enjoy and share these unique and artistic explorations of what it means to live in a family.
