MISSION & OBJECTIVE
The Outside the Box Bakersfield Film Festival is designed to attract not only local and regional filmmakers in traditional festival tracks, but to reach out nationally to specific niche film making communities and their followers.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Now in its second year, the festival originated as a joint effort between the historic Bakersfield Fox Theater and veteran filmmaker Joey Travolta, owner of Inclusion Films, who trains students with developmental disabilities in the art of film making — from writing and set design to acting and editing. In the past, the Fox provided a venue for screening Travolta's projects created by his Bakersfield Inclusion Films students. The Outside the Box Festival has grown from that experience to a nationally recognized festival that offers a place for filmmakers from all over the United States to share their work in a positive and supporting atmosphere.

The Festival is like no other with films made by or about people with special needs as its signature film track. Other tracks include films about American veterans, spiritual films, and mainstream independents. The Outside the Box Bakersfield Film Festival supports and encourages filmmakers, provides networking opportunities, and opens dialogue with industry experts and film fans. The festival attracts local, regional, and national audiences.

This is a competitive festival with $1,000 cash prizes for each Best in Film Track winner and smaller cash prizes in sub categories. The Jett Travolta Vision Award is also presented each year by the Travolta family.
