MISSION & OBJECTIVE

Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film enters its fourth season in 2016, and expands from eight days to ten. We celebrate the finest action, drama science fiction, fantasy, horror, thriller, comedy and animation films from around the world, and for regional filmmakers, we are open to all genres and styles of filmmaking. This season, we will also launch and incorporate the Buffalo Family Film Festival, featuring family entertainment and films made by students under 17.

We pride ourselves on being a truly international film festival, a filmmaker friendly event that focuses on the art of cinema and celebrates the wonder of imagination. We'll let others woo you with hyperbole and sizzling descriptions; we stand on our record. In 2015, we scheduled for screening 104 films: 23 features, 8 short features, 70 short films, and 3 music videos. We showed more regional and international films than any other festival in Western New York.

Our programming is divided into three divisions: North American (US and Canada), International (overseas and foreign language) and Western New York (local films). Each year, our goal is to divide our programming as evenly as possible between these three divisions, but at the end of the day our first commitment is to show the best films possible.

Our hotel is close to our venue, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby, not to mention Niagara Falls. In general, we provide four free passes to the entire festival for each film we select for screening, but for out of town filmmakers willing to travel to attend, we will provide additional passes. Western New York Films are not restricted to the categories listed above; to help our growing film community, we will also accept WNY comedies and dramas for consideration.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The founders and curators of Buffalo Dreams are Gregory Lamberson and Chris Scioli. Lamberson in an award winning author and filmmaker, responsible for the cult films Slime City, Slime City Massacre and Killer Rack. Seeing a need for expanded programming, he and Scioli launched Buffalo Dreams as the successor to Buffalo Screams Horror Film Festival, which ran for three years. This is their seventh year directing a film festival.

We love movies, and derive great satisfaction from presenting excellent films which our patrons cannot see anywhere else in the area. We never schedule films opposite each other, because we don't want film lovers to have to choose between them - we want every interested person to see every fascinating film! We screen our selections in an actual movie theater, not in a banquet room attached to a convention. We do this because we believe every film we show deserves to be appreciated on a large screen with superb sound. We always choose venues with comfortable seating and convenient parking.

We value movie makers as much as we love movies, which is why filmmakers have attended our festival from as far away as Mexico, the United Kingdom and Australia. We do not have the budget to bring visiting filmmakers to the Buffalo area, but we go out of our way to welcome them when they're here. We view creating an environment in which local filmmakers and cinemaphiles interact with visiting filmmakers as a service to our community.

In 2015, we announced our feature film selections 10 days ahead of our notification date, and our short films four days ahead of that date. We expect you to meet our deadlines, so we expect the same of ourselves. We know from experience what it can be like out there: some festivals see communicating with submitting filmmakers as a burden, and we all know some probably don't even watch all of their submissions. We hold ourselves to a higher standard than that, and w e enjoy building relationships with all submitting filmmakers. We want to put on a good event people will enjoy, and we hope you'll be a part of it. We offer two free passes for every submission we receive, whether we select the film or not, and four free passes for selected films and screenplays.

This year, we are only accepting online submission copies. We are not able to offer waivers, so please don't ask. We rely on submission fees to cover such expenses as our theater rental, advertising, and other costs associated with running a film festival. Requests for waivers will be ignored. We accept DCP, Blu-ray (Region A) and DVD (NTSC R1) for feature film exhibition copies, and for short films we require a download link.
