|Water: Take 1 presents the best water-themed short films – narrative, documentary, comedy, drama, animation, live action – to a distinguished jury made up of leaders in water and environmental issues, entertainment professionals and influential members of the community.
MISSION & OBJECTIVE
Ventura Water and Patagonia present Water: Take 1, an exciting and important initiative that highlights our relationship with Water: How we look at it, how we use it and how we share it.
Water: Take 1 presents the best water-themed short films – narrative, documentary, comedy, drama, animation, live action – to a distinguished jury made up of leaders in water and environmental issues, entertainment professionals and influential members of the community.
Bringing together leading experts in the fields of water efficiency, recycling and resource management with partners in online entertainment media production and distribution, Water: Take 1 serves as a mechanism to engage media savvy viewers in the creation of a social network of online content to extend the national reach of Ventura Water and its message.
And our message is simple: Imagine a world where every type of water is paired with a right use, restoring the water cycle to a sustainable cycle. Rain is captured and/or infiltrated into the ground for later use. Water used indoors has a second life as greywater. Reclaimed water is recycled in ways that benefit our world, bringing the water cycle full circle. Water lives in an integrated world and so must we.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Now in its second year, Water: Take 1 will build upon the successes of last year, focusing on landscapes with more Ocean Friendly Gardens. Increased education on irrigation system efficiency, management and new technology will support responsible water use outdoors. Participation in a national 'Never Waste' campaign will motivate consumers to make small changes that make a big difference.
Film submissions are now being accepted! At the close of our published deadline, 11:59 pm (PST), Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013, ten finalists will be selected by our programmers and presented to the jury for the grand prize award of $1500.00, sponsored by Patagonia.
The jury will also vote on a Best Student Short Film, presented by Kennedy/Jenks Consulting and Carollo Engineering, the winner to receive a GoPro camera, a one-year subscription to Lynda.com and professional consulting services from Never Without A Picture.
The Water: Take 1 Audience Choice Award, sponsored by EJ Harrison and Sons, is voted on by the public and the film with the most views wins an IPad 2 (16 GB, WiFi only.) The Audience Choice Award deadline runs one month after the entry deadline so votes still count for one month following the published submission deadline. The earlier you submit your film, the more time your project has to gather votes and win!
And, new this year, the Ventura Vision Award, sponsored by the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach, will be awarded to a film that was shot in and around the City of Ventura. An incentive package made up of production services such as permitting assistance, location scouting, catering, hotel and car rental discounts will make up the prize with the winning film to be determined by a committee of local entertainment and environmental industry professionals.
About Ventura Water
Ventura Water, the City of Ventura’s Water Department, is dedicated to serving our beautiful coastal community with quality drinking water and water reclamation services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Delivering drinking water from local sources since 1923, cleaning water for more than a century, and preventing storm-water pollution for the past two decades, we support Ventura’s vitality. Our goal is to integrate water management to create long-term health and economic benefits for our community. As financial stewards, our goals are to operate and use resources efficiently, understand and meet the needs of our customers, and protect our infrastructure by investing wisely in maintenance and renewal projects. We believe that true water sustainability -- where the needs of the human population and the environment can live in balance –- will be achieved only when choices are made collectively to use water efficiently in all ways to restore our watersheds and protect our children’s future.
