MISSION & OBJECTIVE
For well over a decade, Service Dogs of Virginia has been dedicated to training dogs for people with disabilities and providing these dogs at virtually no cost to our clients. We raise all the money to care for and train our dogs through private donations and foundation grants. Ruff Cuts – A Canine Film Festival was conceived as a unique way to raise funds, increase awareness, and to celebrate man’s best friend and the amazing relationship between people and dogs.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
We are now planning our second annual Ruff Cuts Film Festival. We are inviting filmmakers to participate in our philanthropic effort by entertaining, educating, and showcasing their art. By producing films about man’s best friend these artists will become an integral part of our mission – providing more freedom and independence to people that are in need of support and assistance. Service Dogs of Virginia serves people in 3 primary program areas- individuals in wheelchairs, children on the autism spectrum, and people with type-1 diabetes who have lost the ability to tell when their blood sugar is dropping to life threatening levels.
The second annual festival will be in Charlottesville, Virginia on October 17, 2015 at The Dickinson Fine and Performing Arts Center at Piedmont Virginia Community College. In addition to the screening of films in Charlottesville, which will directly benefit our organization, Ruff Cuts will be leased to other canine related non-profits throughout the U.S. so that these organizations will have a “festival in a box” – a turnkey event, to raise funds for their own organizations. This will continue to provide additional support to SDV and help these independent charities continue their mission and good work.
