ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
OVERVIEW
Project Catalyst will be held at the Directors Guild of America, May 3 – 4, 2014, during the 2014 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. Project Catalyst serves as a launchpad for television and film creatives of Asian descent to showcase their narrative projects to Financiers, Producers, Production Companies, Artists, Agents, Managers and Industry Executives. Project Catalyst also invites many television industry execs who are looking to connect with new voices and storytellers seeking to make the crossover to create serialized and episodic television.

Over the course of two days during last year’s Project Catalyst, filmmakers, combined, had over 160 meetings and numerous networking engagements, enabling them with the contacts, information and confidence they need to make their projects. Each meeting is pre-chosen by each Industry Participant to discuss their production, fine-tune their pitch, and/or to make a connection with the industry. An esteemed jury comprised of Susan Jin Davis (SVP Strategic Services, Comcast), Gloria Fan (VP Film Production & Development, Mosaic Media), Brian Tee (actor/producer, THE WOLVERINE, THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS: TOKYO DRIFT), and Alan Yang (writer/supervising producer, PARKS AND RECREATION) awarded the Jury Prize to Soham Mehta and Rajiv Shah for their film RUN THE TIDE for which they also received $2,500 and $75,000 in post-production services courtesy of Tunnel Post. Honorable Mention was awarded to Viet Nguyen and Chris Dinh for their television spec script of NEW GIRL.

SELECTION
Up to ten narrative creatives will be chosen for Project Catalyst. In addition to participating in the panels, a pitch session with the Jury and one-on-one industry meetings, Selectees will have the opportunity to meet with Industry Participants from the new media and interactive world, looking for distinct and new voices.

For the 2014 Project Catalyst our aim is to find unique and visionary film and television stories, including high-concept, experimental and genre narratives of any budgetary range.
