Feature Film
Live-action or animated feature-length fiction films of any theme or subject.
Feature length documentary films over 50+ minutes on a variety of non-fiction subjects. From hard-hitting exposes and deeply personal stories to humorous observations of everyday events. Short docs no longer than 18 minutes.
World Cinema
Feature films from around the world, exploring a diversity of cultural perspectives, visual styles and narrative modes.
Short Film
Works under 25 minutes long, including world cinema, alternative, music, and student films.


The Sonoma International Film Festival (SIFF) is presented by the Sonoma Film Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, as a welcoming, entertaining and inspiring cinematic experience that supports and promotes independent films, celebrates the cultural diversity in the Sonoma Valley through film, and funds visual arts in education. SIFF also provides scholarships for the Sonoma Valley High School Media Arts graduating students.

"2017" - 250 Filmmakers - 20 countries - 130 films

Named one of America's "25 Coolest Film Festival and "Top Ten Destination Film Festivals", SIFF presents a diverse and provocative exposition showcasing over 120 films news films from around the world with over 250 international filmmakers, directors, actors and industry executives participating in an amazing five day event. Sonoma prides itself on giving every filmmaker the royal treatment. Celebrated as one of the friendliest and most uplifting festivals on the circuit. And now a "market festival"! Four films from 2017 festival secured distribution as a result of screenings at SIFF. Plus, a glass of wine and delicious food every so often!

The Festival takes place in gorgeous and awe inspiring wine country, Sonoma Valley, California, just 45 minutes north of San Francisco. The Sonoma International Film Festival values the filmmakers as much as our industry leaders and celebrities. All are invited to take advantage of our unique housing program and have the opportunity to interact with industry professionals and festival attendees. Friendly, relaxed networking opportunities with industry professionals can lead to distribution deals. Master panel programs feature Hollywood's best and brightest.

Studio executives, film distributors, accomplished writers and directors along with publishers of national trades and magazines are all accessible to attending filmmakers. High profile actors and celebrities have included Bruce Willis, Michael Keaton, Ray Liotta, Hal Holbrook, Robert Patrick, Matthew Modine, John Ratzenberger, John Lasseter, Blythe Danner, Saul Zaentz, Alexander Payne, Mark Romanek, Danny Glover, Mare Winningham, Christopher Lloyd, and most recently, Susan Sarandon, David Arquette, John Waters, Meg Ryan, Jess Weixler, and Maria Bello

In the past, 1 in 12 films that were submitted to us through "Withoutabox" and "filmfreeway" were selected for the Festival program. Films are shown at least twice to an engaged, film-savvy audience representing a broad range of ages and back grounds. 2018 films are open to Jury competition and winners will be presented cash awards. SIFF welcomes an accomplished array of panelists, media, and industry guests, like Sonoma's own, screenwriter Robert Kamen, who also makes fabulous wines. Filmmakers have easy and friendly access to industry experts.

The 2018 Film Festival will feature the finest films from from around the world and showcases Spanish language films. SIFF continues to grow its reputation by screening powerful films that focus on social causes, LGBT issues, design and the environment. Many films have gone from early screenings at SIFF to significant success and distribution. We look forward to filmmakers submitting their films, and upon acceptance we will provide a gateway to a unique wine country film festival where all things are possible. All DVD submissions arriving via mail post must be in DVD region 1 or 0 format NTSC.

Submissions will NOT be returned UNLESS FILMMAKERS PROVIDE MAILER WITH POSTAGE. Please use appropriate packaging to prevent DVD damage.

Please be sure to write the WAB Tracking # and Film Title on the disc itself in case the disc becomes separated from its box.

For international submissions (outside U.S.) - filmmakers MUST write on the package, "NO commercial value - for cultural purposes only."

SIFF is NOT responsible for the customs fee and other charges.

Sonoma International Film Festival is hereby granted the right to utilize an excerpt from any film (including promotional images) submitted and accepted for exhibition at the Festival for promotional purposes.

The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations.

The undersigned shall indemnify and hold harmless Sonoma International Film Festival (formerly Sonoma Valley Film Festival) from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered.
