To make awards to recognise excellence in contemporary short film-making and production.

To provide opportunities to connect the Edinburgh-based film-making community, through networking and collaborative projects.

Provide an opportunity for the Edinburgh public to experience the best work of International, UK & local film-making talent.
To build an audience for the work of locally-based short film makers.

Increase opportunities for film-makers and provide a place to meet and share ideas and resources.

Provide Edinburgh and Scotland with a vibrant short film festival that is about creating film communities and encouraging the production and screening of artistic work within local and international networks.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The Edinburgh Short Film Festival launched in 2011 and has since expanded to 8 nights at venues across Scotland's beautiful & ancient capital city. The 2017 festival runs from Oct 27 - Nov 11 2017.
We'll be screening in the Filmhouse and Summerhall as well as holding pavement cinema sessions, workshops and networking events!

We are also hosting our Award Ceremony on our closing night on Saturday November 11th and making awards for Best Director, best animation and best male and female actors for films screened at our 2017 edition.

The ESFF has also been busy developing an exciting and ongoing film exchange programme with festivals worldwide, and this year we have an exciting new programme exchange with Tokyo's Short Shorts Film Festival!
We are also curating short film screenings at Edinburgh's unique arts event, Hidden Door Art Festival in June 2017 as well as with MECAL - Barceona's International Short Film Festival and for festivals and film events acros Scotland and overseas!
