MISSION & OBJECTIVE

Bio to B Doc & Biopic Business Meeting is the moment which Biografilm Festival - International Celebration of Lives dedicates to business-to-business networking between industry professionals, with the intention of promoting and supporting Italian and European documentary and fiction biopic productions.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Bio To B – Doc & Biopic Business Meeting:
The fourth edition of Bio To B will take place June 15th – 17th 2017 in Bologna, during Biografilm Festival. During the three-days of networking, European cinema professionals will have the opportunity to meet, discuss and promote their respective work within an international context. Over the course of the event, there will be project pitching, round tables, talks and the opportunity to organise one-to-one meetings. Bio To B is characterized by the presence of established film professionals: representatives from key international sales companies, a selection of the most interesting European distributors, international festival directors and programmers, commissioning editors and representatives from the major national TV channels of film and documentaries.

BIOGRAFILM FESTIVAL
Biografilm Festival - International Celebration of Lives is the only international event entirely dedicated to the promotion and support of biographies and life stories. Through concerts, shows, masterclasses and an international cinema programme, the Festival has the objective of bringing to the attention of the public big and small stories which invite you to reflect, are emotive and make the audience think, these are journeys and experiences which have influenced and determined the life of not just one person, but potentially the world. Since 2005, Biografilm has brought to Italy the best international biographical and documentary films, hosting writers, directors, producers, artists, musicians and leading figures of contemporary culture. The 13th edition of the Festival will take place from the 9th - 19th of June 2017, as always in Bologna.

GENERAL RULES

Jury and Prizes:
To mark the fourth edition of Bio To B, 9 top international sellers will be invited to be a part of the international jury which for the first time will award the following prizes:

• €3,000 – Best European Project
• €2,000 – Best Italian Project
• €1,000 – Best Project from Emilia-Romagna

It is possible to win in more than one category.

All films which win an award are requested to insert the Bio To B and Biografilm Festival logo in the closing credits of the final film.

APPLICATION INFORMATION:
The 2017 Bio To B call invites projects which are either documentary or fictional biographies / biopics feature films (intended for theatrical release) which are in the final stages, either a work in progress or a rough cut. The final format of the film must be of a minimum duration of 50 minutes.Short or medium-length projects are not included.

The ultimate deadline to submit your work for selection for Bio To B is Monday 24th April 2017.

Information Requested for Applications:
- Video material. When submitting your film you can upload video material which is not the final cut / length which you wish to screen. However, please be aware that if selected for Bio To B, video material must be between 5 and 15 minutes and with English subtitles, both for work in progress or rough cut. If the film material is neither in Italian or English, films must be subtitled in English when submitting your application.
- Aspect ratio of the material which will be presented in the pitch if your project is selected.
- Title of the film in Italian and English (please indicate whether it is a working title or the final title).
- Name of the director and key team members.
- Country/ies of production/co-production (specify the main co-producer).
- Name and contact details for the person responsible for the film’s application, indicating who will attend Bio To B if the project is selected.
- Main filming locations.
- Estimated length of the film.
- Estimated delivery date for the film.
- Film synopsis in English (maximum 10 lines).
- Logline in English (maximum one line).
- Filmography of the director in English.
- Filmography of the main producer in English.
- Digital photo of the director and the person responsible for the application.
- Two high resolution photos of the film (.jpg or .tiff, 300 or more dpi with the dimensions of 1000 pixels or more).
- Notes from the director and / or the producer on the status of the project.
- Budget.
- Other potential production funds.
- Other potential pitching forums which the project will take part.

Fees and Deadlines:

More than one film can be submitted by the same person, however the application fee (in $) is requested for every film submitted. Fees are to be paid at the time of submitting your film via WITHOUTABOX.

The subscription fee varies depending on the following three deadlines:

• 13th March 2017 - 50 euro
• 3rd April 2017 - 75 euro
• 24th April 2017 - 100 euro

Selection:
Among the films received, a maximum of 20 films will be selected, either work in progress or rough cut.

The selection of the projects to be presented during Bio To B is at the discretion of the selection committee. Selected projects will be sent an official communication to the person responsible for the application with all of the details regarding participation. Applicants must respond to this notification within five working days, confirming participation and indicating the names of the two representatives who will present the project.

Of the projects selected, at least five will have been produced or co-produced in Emilia-Romagna.

Taking Part:
Participation at Bio To B for the selected projects requires the presence of either one or two team members per project (director and / or producer are advised), to be involved with a series of activities between the 13th-18th of June.

The various activities include:

Preparation stage / how to pitch? – A workshop on how best to present a project. How not to overrun, how to identify the key points of a project, engage in interesting dialogues with other team members and develop a relationship between the film material and the spoken presentation. This will take place on the 13th and 14th of June.

Presentation stage / 30 minutes to sell your film - A ‘public’ presentation of the pitch which will be broken-down into film material, presentation of the project (directors notes, production structure, team members, etc) and finally a Q&A between the pitch team and industry guests. This will take place between during Bio to B – 15th-17th June. All presentations will be made in English.

One-to-one meetings - The opportunity to discuss projects in more depth one a one-to-one level between pitch teams and industry guests. These will take place between during Bio to B – 15th-17th June.

Awards Ceremony: public event during which the three prizes will be awarded by the international jury. This event will take place on the 17th of June.

All pitches will be made in English – it is the responsibility of those submitting the films to ensure that they have a presenter of the pitch. Any support needed in this area will be the responsibility of those submitting the films.

The two nominated representatives of selected projects will have two accreditations Bio To B – Industry Pitch Team reserved for them. For further details please visit the accreditation section of Biografilm’s website, www.biografilm.it. Accommodation, breakfasts, lunches and cocktails will also be included.

Screening formats:
All selected films will be screened in original language with English subtitles – it is the responsibility of those submitting films to ensure subtitles are included.

Film material will need to be supplied in one of the following formats:

1. DCP at 24 fps with subtitles in English.
2. Quicktime ProRes 422 HQ of the film or a file H264 a 24 fps on hdd, USB or Aspera Faspex digital delivery (ftp or other platformas used to send files, such as Dropbox and WeTransfer aren’t accepted if it hasn’t been agreed with the organisation), and must be subtitled in English.

Film material for selected projects, apart from in extraordinary cases approved by the Bio To B team, must be available for the duration of the whole event and must arrive in Bologna by the 15th of May 2017. Last minute revisions will not be accepted on film material, any material submitted after this deadline is at the discretion of the Bio to B team. In case of acceptance Bio to B will not be held accountable for problems that may occur during the screening of such new content.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Terms:
It is the responsibility of the producers, distributors or whoever submits the film to guarantee the right to legally be able to submit the film for Bio To B. Submitting your film for the the call signifies oneself to be the rightsholder for the film (also in the case of any other eventual key stakeholders in the project), this includes any copyrighted material which is used in the film material presented. In cases where participants are still in the rights acquisition phase, regarding any of the aforementioned points, Biografilm Festival will examine each project on a case by case basis, deciding whether to allow the participation of the project.

Applications for the call and participation at Bio To B implies the acceptance of all of the terms and conditions. In non-specified cases, the final decision is at the total discretion of the directorial team of Biografilm Festival.
